Hello there

I am glad you contacted counsellors at CareerGuide.com to seek guidance on education related to computer science studies. I am certainly happy to help you with your query today. Before I proceed, please allow me to introduce myself. I am Gomathi and i have been into career counselling since 23 years. I specialize in education guidance and as well type of careers guidance.

I see you hold a diploma in computer software and are willing to do some further course in computer related studies. Great, you have three options. One is doing a post graduate diploma course related to computer science subject and the second one an engineering related course in computer science and lastly a bachelor of science course in computer science.

I will first brief you about post graduate diploma in computer science. You can certainly do this pg diploma as it is most common route for students with a graduate diploma. One of the courses that you may consider doing in Pg Diploma is the PGDCA-PG Diploma in computer applications. You should carefully consider universities under AICTE approval that offer PGDCA course.

The next thing you can consider is studying a BSc degree in computer science. It will require you to spend three years full time. Some students may also consider studying this by distance mode education but i suggest you go to college to study for this degree level course. Studying at college will help you more rather studying from home. Find AICTE approved colleges in your city that offers BSc degree in computer science.

Lastly, you may consider doing an Engineering degree. It is usually a four year full time degree but as you have already obtained a diploma, most universities will consider you to take through lateral entry option. Lateral entry option means joining the university directly in the second year of your engineering degree. Your diploma will allow this lateral entry provision. You have a variety of courses like BE/ BTech Computer science engineering, BE/BTech Software engineering BTech Information management and technology, BE/BTech Software design and applications. You should carefully choose the degree most apt for you and your interest background. IN my opinion BE/BTech computer science is very apt for you as this is the conventional degree that lets you to learn all the basics at an engineering level.

I have given you three options and based on your time commitment you can decide what you want to study from the above. All the best.
