Yes you can definitely approach British council IELTS preparatory course if you want to appear for IELTS exam to study abroad. Australia and UK mostly prefer IELTS exam as part of admission and visa process and therefore if you plan to study in either of these countries then IELTS is must.

IELTS preparatory coaching class is also organised by British council as you said and it is a wonderful step to prepare for IELTS. British council has certified trained IELTS trainers and if you go to this coaching centre you will definitely have very good supervision from well trained faculties. They might also give you weekly sample test and taking these test often you can do well in the main exam. Ask for tips to increase your score and i am sure the faculties will help you with that. You can start coaching now but can sit for exam when you are comfortable taking the exam. The coaching fee differs from institute to institute but the IELTS exam fee is 9900 INR. British council IELTS preparatory coaching has their next class starting on 12 May and run until 30 May. The registration closes on 11th May and please hurry up with the registration.

Apart from British council you can also contact jumboree India IELTS coaching class. They are well known IELTS and other competitive exam coaching centre and they train students well for exams. They have 25 centres throughout India and you can study at any centre that is close to you. Contact their website for registration purposes.

Other IELTS coaching classes i often recommend to students are offered by the chopras eductaional consultants, edwise international consultants or study overseas consultants. All these consultancies have their own trained IELTS faculties and if you contact them they will register you for a training course. The training may be for minimum 2 weeks or one month and it varies from one centre to another.

Other than these coaching class it is also good if you can do some self practice test that are available online. You can find many IELTS free practice test online and as many times you practice you can get a score easily more than 7 out of 9.0
