Hello,

Thanks for choosing CareerGuide.com!!!

Agriculture engineering is the application of all the engineering branches in the field of agriculture to provide solutions to various problems related with farm mechanization, productivity and development. A discipline concerned with solving the engineering problems of providing food and fiber for the people of the world. These problems include designing improved tools to work the soil and and harvest the crops as well as developing water supplies for agriculture and systems for irrigating and draining the land where necessary. Agriculture engineers design farmsteads in which to house animals or store grains. They also work on processing , packaging , transporting and distributing the food and fiber products. Agricultural engineering combines the disciplines of mechanical , civil, electrical and chemical engineering with a basic understanding of biological sciences and agricultural practices. Some agricultural engineers work directly with farmers. Most however work with the companies that manufacture and supply equipment, feeds, fertilizers and pesticides. Others work for companies that provide services to farmers such as developing irrigation and drainage systems or erecting buildings and facilities. An agriculture engineer's job is to provide solutions for technical problems related to agriculture . Work in water supply and water irrigation fields is related to dam design , canal , pipeline, pump systems , micro irrigation systems and drainage systems etc whereas under agriculture mechanization, an engineer designs tractors and tests for machines and equipment, engineers working in the field of soil conservation research effective methods of flood water drainage etc.

Dear Aspirant

Agriculture engineer is an extensive program originated from plant sciences, soil sciences, and environmental sciences. In true sense, you can say agriculture is the interface of all these three subjects where it is being understood with the mathematical, physical, chemical and statstical tools and collectively known as agricultural engineering.
I guess you must be knowing how to join agriculture and what are the pre-requistes at qualification level or academic background and other criteria before joining.

Agriculture has two ways to puruse one is sciences and another is technology which is treated as engineering, though science background becomes unavoidable facts to the certian extent. Technology part is the applied discussion of sciences at industrial level where society gets benifited in directly and count the products as material. Moreover science plays hidden role which needs to be understood at fundamental aspect. Therefor agriculture sciences and engineering have been catagorized accordingly and course structure and program have also been designed in such a way where students of different background can take up as a career Now come to the eligibility criterea for agriculture engineering at UG level
One must be having 12th with biology or maths background including physics and chemistry
After 12th go for entrance test which is being conducted by agriculture university or ICAR for the screening purposes . Based on the cutoff percentage you will be given entry to the agriculture engineering.

Now it is very important to know about the course basket what a college or institute offers you that must be known in advance so that you can prepare for your entrnace and accordingly you will be compatable after admission. Failing to do this prior exercise you could be in uncomfortable situation as many cases are reported to us stating that I want to change my stream please suggest something exciting, it happens due to pre-matured step, lack of understanding and poor upbringing of academics at individual level.

You must know the nature of agriculture engineer how they contribute to the society, as you know India has the agriculture based economy where goverment is supporting agriculture stream in many folds and investing huge fund to increase the high yield of cash crops, how to raise the disease resistance crops, making synergy with private companies, multinational corporate sectors, and other resources. Of course it is synergistic approach of scientist and technocrats -engineers where they work together and grow mutually.
Hope you will be aquianted with my opinion.

Rest you can discuss the other modules of agri-business in details, can call us directly.

Best
Dr. Manoj
