The academic record matters alot while looking for a job as bio medical engineer. There are various areas of specialization within the field of bio medical engineering. their areas of specialization include-
CLINICAL ENGINEERING-bio medical engineers develop and maintain computer database of medical instruments and equipment record in hospitals
.
BIO MATERIALS-it relates to producing materials from both living tissues and artificial materials to replace diseased organs. the engineers make devices which are functional true copies of the organs which are to be replaced. they are capable of growing organs from tissues and cells in the laboratory.
mechanics- involves application of mechanics to biological or medical problems and study the flow of bodily fluids in order to decide the specifications for the various devices such as artificial joint replacements, pace makers etc.
bio signal processing- involves extracting useful information from biological signals for diagnostics and therapeutics purposes. this could mean studying cardiac signals to determine whether or not a patient will be susceptible to sudden cardiac death, developing speech recognition systems that can cope with background noise or detecting features of brain signals that can be used to control a computer. researchers in bio materials work to develop substances that are best suited to interact with living tissues. biotechnology is a set of powerful tool that employ living organisms to make or modify products, improve plants or animals or develop microorganisms for specific uses. genomics-is anew discipline that involves the mapping , sequencing and analyzing of genomes -the set of all the DNA in an organism. a full under standing how genes function in normal and or diseased states can lead to improved detection, diagnosis and treatment of orthopedics engineering- is used to understand the function o bones, joints-and muscles and for the design of artificial joints replacements. they analyze the friction , lubrication and wear and tear of natural joints to develop artificial limbs.
