Other than space tourists (which is possible if you shell a lot of money) Astronaut career normally comes through Air Force. Or Defense organizations which provides fighter air craft flying training. In rare cases, even defense non fighter pilots gets chance, that too after stringent training measures.

Astronaut is supposed to be fully fit, trained in non-gravity or zero gravity conditions and should be a patriot by heart. That is the reason why air force fighter pilots are often chosen.

The easiest path to reach Indian Air Force is Combined Defense Service examination or National Defense Academy. Normally engineers are selected to flying pilot branch through stringent physical, mental, aptitude, attitude and psychological tests. Pilot Aptitude Battery Test, at last, is considered the toughest one. Knowledge, attitude and zeal are the characteristics of a Born Fighter Pilot. Systematic practice is the key. Take your own time. Prepare for the exams. Start now. Complete Engineering with flying colors and then write NDA or CDS examinations.
