In order to become a software engineer, you need t pursue engineering degree from computer science or information technology branch. Another option is you can pursue B.Sc. (Computer Science) and go for M.Sc. with the same stream or pursue BCA (Bachelor in Computer Application) and MCA course.
I would like to tell you that the IT boom in India is over and the job market is tough. Do go for this career if you have enthusiasm and interest in programming, coding, testing etc. If you are thinking about big salary package and posh offices etc then this might not be the right choice. List down your interests and it will help you to take the right decision.

There are different courses available to enter into the software domain and work in the IT industry. You choose any of them based on the level of education you have got till now:
1. Pursue engineering with specialisation computer science or information technology.
2. Pursue B.Sc. (Computer Science) or IT and also go for M.Sc. Computer Science or IT
3. Pursue BCA (Bachelor in Computer Application) and then MCA course.
Ensure before choosing that you are made for this career option. Do not select just because of the boom or salaries you see.
