Making a career in the Police department is a challenging and tough job. Many students they aspire to make a career in the Police Department and thus they aspire to go for the Higher designation posts in the Police Department like IPS or ACP etc. One who loves to serve the society for them Civil Service career option is one of the Best Career option. In IPS one needs to maintain the Law and order within the state. IPS officer is a Higher post offered in the Police Department.The work of the Police officer is not confined to one particular area . The person needs to travel and needs to relocate across the country. In order to become an IPS officer one have to give an Civil Service Exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.

The one who wish to make a career as the IPS needs to give an Civil Service Exam conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission. The exam is conducted in the 2 stages

1. Prelim Exam - There are two compulsory papers of 200 marks each . Objective Type and have a Negative Marking System. 2 Hours duration each.

2.Main Exam - 9 papers which are descriptive and the total marks are 1750 and Personality Test of 275 marks which makes the total marks 2025.

The Eligibility criteria for the  IPS exam-

  1. A candidate should have completed a Graduation Degree from a recognised University from any stream with minimum 55% or is in the last year of Graduation and is waiting for the result can also apply for the exam.
  2. Those who have completed 21 years of age are eligible to apply for the exam and the upper age limit is 32 years.The age relaxation is 5 years for the Reserved Candidates; for OBC it is 3 years .
  3. There are limits for the attempt of the exam- For General the attempts are 6; for OBC is  and for the reserved there are no limits for the attempt upto age limit.

Physical requirement

Height – Male 165 cm & ST (not the SC/ OBC) – 160 cm

Female 150 cm & ST (not SC/ OBC)- 145 cm

Chest – Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm.

Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm.

Eye sight – 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye.

6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye. Near vision J 1 for good eye. J2 for worst eye.

 

So you can become a Police officer either through the UPSC or you can apply for the Delhi Police Department exams conducted by the Delhi Police Department.
