The Indian Police Service is one of the highest post offered in the Police officials. The IPS is one of the high post that is very much respected and considered to be one of the prestigious career option. IPS is a challenging and tough job. The main work of the IPS is to maintain Law and Order within the Country. The IPS exams are conducted every year .
The one who wish to make a career as the IPS needs to give an Civil Service Exam conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission. The exam is conducted in the 2 stages
1. Prelim Exam - There are two compulsory papers of 200 marks each . Objective Type and have a Negative Marking System. 2 Hours duration each.
2.Main Exam - 9 papers which are descriptive and the total marks are 1750 and Personality Test of 275 marks which makes the total marks 2025.

The Eligibility criteria for the IPS exam-
Physical requirement
Height – Male 165 cm & ST (not the SC/ OBC) – 160 cm
Female 150 cm & ST (not SC/ OBC)- 145 cm
Chest – Male Minimum 84 cm. Expansion 5 cm.
Female Min 79 cm expansion 5 cm.
Eye sight – 6/6 or 6/9 distant vision for good eye.
6/12 or 6/9 for worst eye. Near vision J 1 for good eye. J2 for worst eye.
