Hi
Petroleum engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with the study of techniques and methods to extract petroleum and natural gas. It involves study of extraction, purification, manufacture and utilization of oil, gas, and liquefiable hydrocarbons.

Petroleum engineers focus on a wide range of projects and activities. Some focus on production challenges, identifying, testing, and implementing methods for improving oil and gas production.

Course details
Petroleum engineering courses include Reservoir Petrophysics, Petroleum Engineering Systems, and Physical Geology. A petroleum engineering program might include topics in Petroleum refining and petrochemicals, petroleum exploration and production and mechanical and petroleum science, Geostatistics, Well Performance, Reservoir Fluids, Petroleum Project Evaluation, Engineering Ethics, and Well Completion and Stimulation.

Career prospects are quite attractive in petroleum sector as petroleum companies have great influence and offer attractive salaries to employees. The demand for petroleum and petroleum products is only expected to increase and the increase would lead to creation of new jobs. In fact, there is great demand of efficient petroleum engineers and almost every young graduate in petroleum engineering gets a job offer from petrol and gas companies from India and overseas.

As in every other industry, remuneration in petroleum engineering is determined according to the knowledge, skills, qualification, capabilities and experience of the candidate. Moreover, if the candidate is from top notch engineering college he may get a job which can pay salary between Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000 per month. The salary increases with the experience 20-40 lacs pa.

Top companies hiring petroleum gradutes are:-

- Indian Oil Corporation
- IBP Co. Limited
- Lubricants India
- Oil Gas India
- Petrosil Group
- Shiv-Vani Universal
- ONGC
- Bharat Petroleum
- Reliance Petroleum Limited

Hi,

Greeting's for the day!!!

Despite the fact that petroleum engineering is an attractive and high paying career option, not much information is available on it. Typically, a petroleum engineering graduate is given the job to discover natural sources of oil and examine the same. Similarly, developing the latest machines and equipments which can be used in the extraction and processing of oil is part of the job of a petroleum engineer. Petroleum engineers have global career and are hired by global oil companies.

The Petroleum engineering is divided into two parts:
1. Upstream Sector
2. Downstream Sector

1. Upstraem Sector:
consists of activities like exploration, production and exploitation of oil and natural gases. After gaining a qualifiaction in petroleum engineering, the engineers work in the exploration and production activities of petroleum and other related products. Using the latest drilling technology and geophysics for the exploration of oil reservoirs, they exploit the same for maximum output.

2. Downstream Sector:
Consist activities such as the refining, marketing and distributing of petroleum products. Production is not only the work carried ou in a petroleum company and the job of petroleum engineer does not get over as the oil is produced, rather, it starts at this stage. Refining process is crucial for an oil product as then only it can be used. Marketing and distributing department may require a petroleum engineer to have some management degrees.

Job Prospects:
Career prospects are quite attractive in petroleum sector as petroleum companies have great influence and offer attarctive salaries to employees. The demand for petroleum and petroleum products is only expected to increase and the increase would lead to creation of new jobs. In fact, there is a great demand of efficient petroleum engineers and almost every young graduate in petroleum engineering gets a job offer from petrol and gas companies from India and Overseas.

Whereas private petroleum companies offer attractive salaries to petroleum engineers, government sector oil companies are not far behind in terms of paying attractive salaries and bonuses to employees.

Pay Packet:
As in every other industry, remuneration in petroleum engineering is determined according to the knowledge, skills, qualification, capabilities, and experience of the candidate. Moreover, if the candidate is from top notch engineering college het may get a job which can pay salary between Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 30,000 per month. Person with 3 Years of Work experience can earn upto Rs. 40,000 per month.

Further doubts or queries feel free to contact.

Rahul.

Dear friend, many thanks for your question, I am happy to answer it through Meracareerguide. I must appreciate your vision about your future career planning. Let me first tell you about Petroleum Engineering. It is field of engineering concerned with the activities of the hydrocarbons production, which can be either in crude form or in natural gas. Exploration and production of petroleum product are also a part of this stream. The petroleum engineer divides themselves into following types;

Reservoir engineer work to optimize production of gas and oil management by proper well placement , production rates and enhanced oil recovery techniques.

Drilling engineers manages technical aspects of drilling exploratory, production and injection wells.

Production engineers including subsurface engineers, manage the interface between the reservoir and the well including the perforations, sand control, down hole flow control and down hole monitoring equipment. Evaluate artificial lift methods and also select surface equipment that separates the produces fluids such as oil, natural gas and water.

Petroleum Engineer

The Petroleum Engineering since many years has been the most highest paid engineering discipline. The 2010 National Association of Colleges and Employers, USA survey showed that petroleum engineer were the highest paid. The graduate annual average salary was $125220, for experienced persons in the relevant field the salary may go up to $180,000 to $260,000 per annum. In Middle East countries, the salary of petroleum engineer having experience of 2-4 years may earn up to Rs.2,50,000 to 3,00,000 per month. In these countries, the saving potential is also very high. In Indian scenario the petroleum engineer graduate may earn starting salary from Rs. 55,000 to Rs. 70,000 per month. This salary may reach up to Rs. 3,00,000 per month depending upon the experience. Now you can calculate how much you can earn in next three years. You may gain some experience in India, and if you wish you may try to work in USA or in Middle east countries.

The scope of Petroleum engineer in Gujarat is huge in all petrochemical companies. The governmental sector or private sector involved in exploration and refining of petroleum products do offer job to a petroleum engineer. Few examples are Jamnagar refinery, Gujarat refinery in Vadodara (Koyali) are the places where you can work.

My final advice will be just concentrate on your studies, score good marks and keep yourself update with latest techniques in your field.

Good Luck...
