Hello My Dear Banking Career Aspirant,

Banking is one of the topest of career options and the sector is slated to keep growing due to the growing business opportunities and post elections business environment. Banking is rightly considered as the back bone of the Indian Economy and there fore its very imperative to have qualified and proficient professionals to keep the banking system running without problems.

Glad that you decided to approach CareerGuide.com for seeking guidance for your career concern.

Banking as a Career:

Unorganised Sector

Since you have already done your commerce graduation by now I am sure that you must have realised what all aspects does banking sector involve and since its not a general sector but a niche sector, niche qualifications and expertise is required to be able to work in banks (public as well as private as well as foreign).

I hope you know that recently Reserve Bank of India Governor issued new banking licenses to IDFC. I would like to tell you that in the coming months and years there will be more licenses issued by RBI to private companies for starting banks as a business. This means that there will be huge job opportunities in these new banks and in private sector banking.

Considering the above position, I would suggest you to aim at joining private banks / foreign banks. Joining these new banks when you are new too, would be a great opportunity to learn many things and achieve great success in the long term.

Gaining enhanced knowledge is a must now:

I would not say that dont appear for PO exams. PO is a very high level position in the public banks today and if you can pass this examination, you can surely be tension free about your banking career in public sector banks. Also studying for PO exams will give you the required confidence about the sector and also will make you ready technically.

However as I suggested above, doing an enhanced course in banking would be the best since then you will be able to join the private sector banks.

I would not suggest MBL. MBL is a hard core legal course and that will not help you in banking typically.

I would suggest you to go for MBA in Banking from a primier Institute. Further you may also explore NIIT's IFBI Institute which trains graduates for banking sector and alos gives jobs starting at Assistant Managers etc. However for a long term thing, I would suggest an MBA in Banking.

You can also check with NIBM, Pune which offers PG courses in banking, treasury, etc and assists in placements too.

All the Best!
