Dear aspirant,
To become a professor in Fishery science, the eligibility criteria is that you should have doctoral degree in Fishery sciences.Before a doctoral degree you should have a masters degree in Fishery sciences.
In your graduation level you should study biology subjects, specially Zoology. In post graduate degree you have to choose fishery science, that is Masters in Fishery Sciences (M.FSc).
There are many institutes and universities in India, which offers this degree programs. A fishery science encompasses the study of life, habits and breeding of various species of fish. Fish breeding a new and growing industry. Fishing in high seas, preservation and marketing of fish products needs a variety of trained and professional persons. Hatcheries are quite common at many places.
The Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE) in Mumbai, is one of the premier institute in India offering various courses in Fisheries science at masters and doctoral degree levels. This institutes have various departments, which could of your interest, such as ; aquaculture, fish nutrition, fish breeding, fish genetics, fisheries technology, aquatic environment.
CIFE is a very large institute with many zonal centers all over India, such as Salt lake (Kolkatta), Rohtak (Haryana), Kakkinada (Andhra Pradesh), Chinhutt (Uttar Pradesh), Pavarkheda (Madhaya Pradesh).
Since you want to be a fishery scientist, you have to have a specialized subject, in which you have to do masters and then a doctoral degree program. A two years degree program (four semesters) for masters degree and three years (six semesters) for doctoral degree programs are offered by various institutes and universities. IN doctoral degree you have to do specialization, such as inland aquaculture, rearing of ornamental fish, Fish nutrition, fish pathology and immunology, fish nutrition biotechnology, bioactive and biodynamic substance from the sea.

The admission is by entrance test or by merit, the specialization in PhD program is by interest and merit. after PhD program in Fishery science you will be able to join a university or institute as Assistant Professor..
