No, it’s not compulsory to appear in JEE Main Exam just after qualifying in 12th class. But there will be only one drawback that you will lose a chance to appear in IIT JEE Exam.
Candidates are only eligible to appear in JEE Main Exam either they appearing in 12th Class or has already cleared 12th in previous year.
