Physics is about matter, energy , motion and force. Physics has its application in fields such as meteorology , astronomy, nuclear scienhce , medical physics, astrophysics and so on. Undergraduate and post graduate courses in physics are offered in almost all the universities in the country. An emerging trend is pursuing 5 years integrated MSc physics to aspirants who have complete class 12th with physics .

The IIT Kanpur, Kharagpur amd Roorkee offers 5 years integrated MSc Physics programme , admission to which is through JEE advanced. The other renowened institutes such as IISERs Mohali, Kolkata, Pune , Bhopal , Thiruvanthapuram offers the five year BS-MS dual degree with major in Physics to students completing class 12th with scinece. Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology, Thiruvananthapuram offers four year B.Tech Physical Science Progarmme ; National Institute of Technology , Surat offers a five years integrated Physics course. The UM_DAE Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences, Mumbai and Integrated Science Education and research centre, national Institute of cience education & Research at Bhubaneshwar and National Institute of Technology Surat also offers 5 years integrated MSc Physics programme.Admission to all the integrated courses is on the basis of entrance test.Tata Instiute of Fundamental Research , Mumbai offers an integrated MSC-PhD programme. Inter University centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics offers research in the areas of physics, astronomy & astrophysics, Saha Institute of Nuclear physics, Kolkata offers PhD in condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, high energy physics, mathematical physics. Harish Chandra Research Institute Allahabad offers studies in theoretical physics & astrophysics. One also have an option to do studies in physics at Indian Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore

Students also have an oprion to do BSC followed by MSC or Integrated PhD Programme. Admission to doctoroal programmes are on the basis of aptitude test such Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering , UGC NEt, CSIR-UGC JRF, Joint Entrance Screening Test, INAT ( IUCAA- NCRA Admission TEst) , DBT-JRF exam or ICMR-JRF exam.

Job prospects include joining a research organization, teaching or electronics and communication industry, space research organizations
