Automation is the buzz word in process industry and automation is the core job of an instrumentation engineer
. Hence the demand for instrumentation engineers will always be there. Instrumentation engineers can get jobs in Research and Development units of public and private sector companies. They are recruited by the heavy industries such as thermal power stations, steel plants, refineries and cement and fertilizer plants as process engineer. They can work as design and product development engineer in companies that manufactures specialized instruments such as actuators, gauges etc ( Electronics Design & Manufacturing). The opportunities are the chemical and food processing industries as industrial automation or robotics engineer. The role of maintenance and repair engineer can be taken up in bio medical instrumentation industry. The engineers also have an option to pursue consultancy based work. Those who have an academic bent of mind can get engaged in academic research or teaching role in universities or colleges.
