The rising incidence of suicides and problems like absenteeism and alcoholism in the industrial sector coupled with illness arising out of high stress jobs are increasing the demand for psychiatrists. Looking at the prevalence of mental disorders , there will be need for most and more psychiatrist in the next few years. Psychiatrist can get employment in regular hospitals,m poly clinics as well as mental; hospitals. They can also work in rehabilitation centers to assist the drug addicts , juvenile delinquents , dipsomaniacs, alcoholics in rehabilitation in collaboration with occupational therapists and social workers. They are recruited in private hospitals, neuro psychiatric centers, clinics and health institutes.Polyclinics are recruiting psychiatrists to counsel patients to attend to various psychological problems. They an start private practice or can work as counsellor in large industrial establishments, hospitals, courts, prison and even for NGOs.Those interested in academic and research work can take up teaching in medical colleges and psychiatric institutions.
