Linguistic is the scientific study of language. In recent years, there has been demand of Linguists in various sectors such as health, communication, corporates, publishing houses,media houses, research institutions, rehabilitation centres etc. Linguists can work as following:

  1. Linguist/language trainer
  2. New reader/ Broad castee
  3. Communication Disorder Specialist
  4. Copy writer
  5. Editor
  6. Proposal Writer
  7. Interpreter
  8. Lexicographer (Who are engaged in publishing Dictionary)
  9. Professor/ Teacher
  10. Technical Writer
  11. Translator
  12. Freelance consultant etc

Educational Courses:
1.A bachelor's degree in Linguistics.
2. Masters degree in Linguistics.
3. Certificate/ Diploma in Linguistics
4. PG Diploma in Linguistics
5. Advanced Diploma in Applied Linguistics
6. MPhil/ PhD in Linguistics.

Most State/Central Universities offer courses in linguistic. Few known Universities are:
The M S University of Baroda
Delhi University
Jawaharlal Nehru University
Aligarh Muslim University

After doing Masters in Linguistics, you have job opportunities in Govt. Sector such as Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore. Another being Institute of Hindi Language, New Delhi. In Anthropological Survey of India, Govt. Universities/ Schools/ Colleges.

A linguistic can also get job in Hospital as Communication Disorder Specialist, Speech Therapist ( a course in this is additionally required after Masters in Linguistics). One can also get job as Speech Trainer in Call centres or companies or Language Trainer in the field of Medical Transcription.

There are also opportunities in the field of Journalism, Advertising, Business and Corporate communication.
