There are a number of personal and professional skills required if you want to become a fashion designer and excel in this profession. You need to learn those skills and master them in order to succeed. Below is the list of those personal and professional skills:

1. You need to have very good design skills. You should be able to visualize the designs and then write them or draw them on the paper and show it to your clients. Once the client approves this design, you can go ahead with the final production of the design. Remember you creative you are with your designing will determine how valuable your work is going to be.

2. In fashion designing world you need to coordinate with the number of people both inside and outside your offices. Therefore you need to have the right interpersonal skills to make things easy for you and also increase the productivity. You will have to be patient and polite while dealing with all these people so that things don't get worse due to minor misunderstandings otherwise the project will seriously get affected. You need to learn how to get along with the people.

3. The fashion designers have to be excellent in their communication skills. They have to communicate with their clients on the regular basis. This determines how much can they impress the clients. Apart from that they attend a number of fashion events where they interact with other fashion designers, media people and the models. They should be able to communicate nicely with all of them so that they can explain them about their work and at the same time they would be able to impress the other person. Remember what impression you leave on the other person's mind will have an impact on your next assignment. So be very clear and nice in your communications.

Therefore you need diverse set of skills so that you can succeed in the business of fashion designing. Once you master them there won't be anything stopping you to achieve the new heights in this profession.

On one hand, the fashion industry satisfies both the creative fancies and te materialistic needs of the people. On the other hand, it promises glamour, fame, success and a high pay package to the talented people.

However, it is also a demanding career, as fashion designers need to combine their cretivity with managerial skills to sustain in this industry. Thus, if you can create magic with colours, shapes and designs, then just obtain a professional course to begin a successful career in the lluring world of fashion designing.

Job Prospects:
In India, the fashion industry has just begun to come of age, as it is still in its fledgling stage. This industry offers plenty of opportunities for talented hard working and enthusiastic people. Prospects for fashion design graduates are pretty good thanks to the huga and still growing demand for "Designer wear" and the equally outsized quantity of exports.

After successful completion of course, you can remain self employed. Alternatively, several export houses, garment store chains, textile mills, leather companies, boutiques, fashion show organizers, jewellery houses, and media houses recruit professionals interested in a career in fashion designing.

Required Skills and Personal Qualities:
Fashion designers needs:
1. To be creative
2. an eye for colour, texture and pattern
3. The ability to visualize things in three dimensions
4. Technical skills in areas such as pattern cutting, grading, and garment construction
5. To be able to draw, either by hand or on the computer
6. Good communications skills to explain their ideas clearly and persuasively.
7. The ability to meet deadlines and work within a budget
8. Business skills and commercial awareness, particularly if they are self-employed
9. Good negotiation skills when selling their own designs
10. To keep ahead of trend in colour, fabric and style.
11. Storng organizational skills.
