In order to become a successful journalist you need to have a number of personal and professional skills as they have been mentioned below:

1. You need to have extremely good communication skills. And communication skills not only include the writing and oral but also how well you communicate with your gestures. This is important for those who are working in a TV channel. They have to be really good in front of camera. For others both oral and written communication skills have to be of top quality.

2. The journalists have to be spontaneous and quick to respond. This profession requires one to work at any time and therefore one has to be prepared at all times. They cannot afford to miss an important story which takes place at odd times. That would affect the work. Therefore they need to be ready for it.

3. As a journalist one must be a very good story teller. This is very much required where people have a number of options to read or watch the news stories. The news story that you tell as a journalist has to be compelling enough so that people prefer to hear that story over others.

4. You need to be a very good team player if you want to become a journalist. You will have to coordinate with your crew members and those who are in offices on regular basis and provide them the right information that they will be requiring.

5. One of the most important things in the work of a journalist is to have the right amount of research behind the scenes so that they can provide various facts to provide the underlying truth in the news story. The sensational news often change the careers of the journalists. They must constantly seek opportunities to explore the hidden truths and reveal it to the public. This will help them in getting the recognition throughout the country or even beyond that.

If you work on these five skills, you will be in a better position to work as a journalist. Therefore, practice them and gain expertise. That will be your path to success.
