Microbiology is a wide term which includes many branches like virology , mycology , bacteriology , parasitology and others. microbiologists study microbes, where they occur, their survival strategies, how they can affect us and how we can exploit them. There are various areas of specialzation in this field such as medical microbiology, public health microbiology, agricultural microbiology , industrial microbiology , marine microbiology , food and dairy microbiology etc. microbiologists can work for research and development laboratories of government and private hospitals, research organizations, pharmaceutical , food, beverage and chemical industries.

To be a successful microbiologist one beeds to have an analytical and scientific temper , intense interest in research , keen observation , preserverance and hardwork. Svientific purusuit drivejn by keen motivation is required. Methodical approach in work , dedication , ability to relate to a team of professionals , good communication skills are also essential. mathematical and computational skills are also needed.
