As the name suggests, Sociology is something to do with the Societal issues and concerns.

As a Sociologists, you would be working with concerns related to:
  • Women
  • Children
  • \Education
  • Health
  • Marriage
  • Environment
  • Food
  • Water

And many more issues concerning the society.

Mainly your job would be to educate people as to what are the policies brought out by the welfare society for them and how can they avail the facilities.
Also if someone is being harassed then helping them to deal with the issues in hand by directing them to the right person and then following it up.
Sometimes you may need to give them shelters in remand homes.

After a BA in Sociology, you can join an NGO which works with causes that you are interested in dealing with.

Or else you could opt for a course in MSW, mainly done from TISS.

This course helps you to get a better understanding of the made policies and gets you in direct contact with reforms too.

Also after an MSW course, you could look out for corporate opportunities.
As you might be aware of " Corporate Social Responsibility" cell, which every corporate follows, whereby a part of the income is dedicated to such societal causes.
So they need qualified people to monitor these functions, who is also aware of the policies and issues concerning the people.

Hope this answers your query.

Wish you good luck............

If you have done BA Honours from sociology, there will be quite some opportunities. Research institutes, the criminal justice system, public health and welfare organizations, private businesses, law firms, international agencies, medical centers, educational institutions, advertising firms, survey, and polling organizations are only some of the examples where people from this background are required.

There are options for working in other sectors with area specialists to help function. People like economists, political scientists, anthropologists, psychologists, and social workers also require assistance to make the right choices in their field.
Once you complete your education in this field you can choose to be an educator, researcher, counselor, consultant, etc. Practicing sociologists who have advanced degrees can also apply for jobs such as research analysts, survey researchers, gerontologists, statisticians, urban planners, community developers, criminologists, or demographers.

There are some MA and Ph.D. sociologists which can obtain specialized training to become counselors, therapists, therapists, or program directors in social service agencies.

However, there is a suggestion for you, that is you can become an assistant professor after clearing UGC NET Exams. To get the complete information about UGC NET Exam preparation, check here.
