Dear Meghana,

Thanks for writing to!

Carpentry is also good field and one can earn decent income provided a person is skillful. Carpentry courses mainly focus on how to build and maintain a wide range of structures from wooden materials. There are various specializations within carpentry such as:
Residential carpentry:create the framework for homes
Finish carpenters: complete detailed work such as stairs and flooring
Interior systems carpenters: install factory-made materials and products
Floor layer carpenters: specialize in hardwood flooring and carpeting.

One need to know all specializations to build career in carpentry. For career in carpentry, there is no specific qualification required but candidate with certificate course and graduate degree would get more chances to get job in carpentry companies or can efficiently run carpentry business or workshop or work as a sub-contractor.

There is no bachelor course in carpentry as of now. However, UGC has planned to start Bachelor of Vocational Course (BVoc) in Plumbing and Carpentry. This is three years degree course. The list of institutions are not yet released by UGC. BVoc is equivalent to BA/BCom/Bsc. Soon various Universities/colleges will offer graduate courses in this discipline.

There are many institutes run diploma/certificate courses on carpentry. Few of them are as follow:

National open school, B-31B, Kailash colony, New Delhi, India.

New Weaver Vidyalaya Chenganachery S.S Society, Post Mallapally (West) Distt-Patnanamthitta, Kerela.

Asha Handicrafts Association, 1st Floor, Kashi Mira, Off Western Express Highway, Mira Road (east)
Thane 401107,India

Agnel Industrial Training Institute,Agnel Technical Education Complex , Fr. Agnel Ashram, Agnelganv, Goa, India - 403722

Indian Training Institutes (ITI): Carpentry Trade courses are run by Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) across India. You can find about the course from ITI nearby your place. Eligibility for ITI carpentry trade course in 8th standard.

Hope this is helpful for you. If you need any further information, feel free to ask us again.

Wish you a great career ahead!
