Hi,

Petroleum Engineering is the field of engineering which studies the petroleum products and works on the extraction, purification and refining of those products. They design and develop methods for extracting oil and gas from deposits below the earth's surface. They also find new ways to extract oil and gas from older wells.

Petroleum Engineers typically do the following---
- Design equipment to extract oil and gas in the most profitable way.
- Develop ways to inject water, chemicals, gases or steam into an oil reserve to force out more of the oil.
- Develop plans to drill in oil and gas fields and then to recover the oil and gas.
- Make sure that wells, well testing and well surveys are completed and evaluated.
- Use computer controlled drilling or fracturing to connect a larger area of an oil and gas deposit to a single well.
- Make sure that oil field equipment is installed, operated and maintained properly.
- Assess costs and estimate the production capabilities and economic value of oil and gas wells to evaluate the economic viability of potential drilling sites.
- Develop plans for oil and gas field drilling and for product recovery and treatment.
- Direct and monitor the completion and evaluation of wells, well testing or well surveys.
- Analyze data to recommend placement of wells and supplementary processes to enhance production.
- Monitor production rates and plan rework processes to improve production.
- Interpret drilling and testing information for personnel.
- Specify and supervise well modification and stimulation programs to maximize oil and gas recovery.
- Assist engineering and other personnel to solve operating problems.

The above written are the tasks of a Petroleum Engineer. It is quite clear that it requires a lot of determination and hard work along with aptitude to get into this field. This field attracts many for the golden future it provides in terms of economic growth. But there are many who do not opt for it because of the risks it involves. In order to search for oil fields at times, petroleum engineers are required to stay in remote and distant areas which are not only difficult but unattractive too.

But it is highly rewarding career and also provides opportunities to travel to distant places.

ALL THE BEST !!!!!!

Hi,

Greeting's for the day!!!

Despite the fact that petroleum engineering is an attractive and high paying career option, not much information is available on it. Typically, a petroleum engineering graduate is given the job to discover natural sources of oil and examine the same. Similarly, developing the latest machines and equipments which can be used in the extraction and processing of oil is part of the job of a petroleum engineer. Petroleum engineers have global career and are hired by global oil companies.

The Petroleum Engineering is divided into 2 parts:
1. Upstream Sector:
Consists of activities like exploration, production and exploitation of oil and natural gases. After gaining a qualification in petroleum engineering, the engineers work in the exploration and production activities of petroleum and other related products. Using the latest drilling technology and geophysics for the exploration of oil reservoirs, they exploit the same for maximum output.

2. Downstream Sector:
Consistactivities such as refining, marketing and distributing of petroleum products. Production is not the only work carried out in a petroleum company and the job of petroleum engineer does not get over as the oil is produced, rather, it starts at this stage. Refining process is crucial for and oil product as then only it can be used. Marketing and distributing department may require a petroleum engineer to have some management degree.

Required Aptitude and Skills:
An international career is much attractive and young ngineers willing to explore an work in global oil companies and get international exposure; however, here are few things which can help in building a successful career:

1. Excellent academic record in BTech in Petroleum Engineering is a must.
2. Technical exposure during various projectscarried out during the course shows that the candidate can work effectively when exposed to real scenarios.
3. Excellent numerical and computer skills are expected from petroleum engineers as most of time there would be computer simulation required for further analysis.
4. Skills to plan out project ad execute them with team spirit are further requirements.

Sound communication skills in English language would enhance the chances of getting international exposure and higher position within the organization.

Job Prospects:
Career prospects are quite attractive in petroleum sector as petroleum companies have great influence and offer attractve salaries to employees. The demand for petroleum and petroleum product is only expected to increase and the increase would lead to creation of new jobs. In fact, there is great demand of efficient petroleum engineers and almost every young graduate in petroleum engineering gets a job offer from petrol and gas companies from India and Overseas.

Further doubts or queries feel free to contact.
