There are a number of things that you should learn as a footwear designer which will help you a lot in the long terms. Below is the list of important non academic things that you should aspire to learn:


1. You need to develop your design skills. The design will be a part of your curriculum but you also need to focus on constantly developing your overall design aptitude. That can only be achieved with practice. Also you should make use of your imagination skills as that is very important factor in deciding the creativity of your work. Thus you should start working on it.

2. As a footwear designer you need to understand the market really well. They need to understand the footwear market really well along with the understanding of the supply and demand in the market. You should also understand the demography of your potential market base so that you can make effective marketing strategies during your work. Working on these things will help you a lot in the long terms and this learning will be very effective in your work.

3. The footwear designers need to have the good understanding of the production processes. This is because they have to work with the production engineers and ensure that the manufactured product has the same design and quality as it is supposed to have. Therefore as a footwear designer if you can also understand the basics of production and little bit about the engineering behind it, you will be in a much better position to deal with those situations where you will be coordinating with the engineers and technicians to get things right. Once again this learning will take you a long way in this field and therefore has to be learnt at the right time.

Therefore there are number of skills that you can develop and learn so that you can succeed in this career of footwear designers. These skills though do not belong to your academic curriculum, play a significant role in your overall career progress and therefore have to be taken care of.
