With the growing technological trend, there is a need for a workforce who is well quipped about the knowledge about computer applications. Every office is heading towards paperless transactions. Computer Applications or Application software is computer software designed to help the user to perform a singular or multiple related specific tasks. The duration of the course is usually 3 years divided into 6 semesters. The main subjects studied under the course are:

  • Programming (C, C++, Java, .Net, PHP, Vb etc.)
  • Networking subjects (data communications, computer networks etc.)
  • Mathematics (CONM, discrete mathematics etc.)
  • Software engineering (SAD etc.)
  • System software (compiler design etc.)

There is a very wide scope in studying this course in Bangalore as the city provides some of the best BCA Colleges in the country. Some of them are mentioned below:

Presidency College:

 It was established in 2001 with the motto of “Gain more knowledge, Reach Greater Heights”. It is affiliated to the Bangalore University and has 4000 students studying in it. The Presidency Group of Institutes consists of 7 schools, 2 colleges and 1 University. Bachelor of Computer Applications is a 3-year course for which every candidate who has passed his 12th grade with a minimum of 55% in Science/ Art/ Commerce field is eligible to apply. Also, students who have passed Diploma in Engineering of three years with a minimum of 35% in each semester or year under the Government of Karnataka can also apply.

Acharya Institute of Management and Sciences:

 The AIMS Institute was established in 1994 and is one of the many Institutions run by the JMJ Society. It was accredited with the 35th Best Private B-School in India by Outlook in 2012. For admission in the BCA programme in this College, the candidate should have passed his 12th standard. They are supposed to clear a personal interview to seek admission in this course. SC/ST candidate’s eligibility criteria are 5% less than the general category.

The Oxford College of Science:

 This college was established in 1994 and was ranked 1st amongst all the private colleges in Karnataka in 2007, 2008 and 2009.It is affiliated to the Bangalore University and the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. It does not offer BCA but a Masters course in Computer Application.

Christ University, Bangalore:

 It was founded in 1969 with the motto of “Excellence and Service”. The Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India declared this institution as a University under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956. To enrol in the 3-year BCA course of this University, the candidate should have passed his 12th grade with Mathematics or Computer Science as his main subject. The application process for the University is available online and offline both.

 

 

 

Jain University:

This University was founded in 2009 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. The University offers 185 programs at Undergraduate, Post-graduate and Research level. It is a member of the Association of Jain Universities. Admission to the courses is made on the basis of a test known as the Jain Entrance Test (JET).  Candidates who have passed their 12th grade from a recognised board are eligible to apply for admission.

REVA Institute of Technology and Management:

 This University established in 2002 is affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University. The motto of the University is “Knowledge is Power”. The institution has 35 acres of land and one amongst the largest colleges in the city.  The form for admission to the University can either be filled online or directly. The form is available on the University website and the Terms and conditions are clearly mentioned. Candidates who have passed their 12th standard are eligible to apply for admission in the University.

Kristu Jayanti College, Bangalore:

This College was started in 1999 in affiliation to the Bangalore University. The motto of the college is ‘Light and Prosperity’. It is run by the Bodhi Niketan Trust. To seek admission in this college, the candidate should have passed his 12th examination from a recognised board in the country with a minimum of 40% marks. There will also be a counselling session and a personal interview on which the admission of the candidate would be based.

Bangalore City College:

 The vision of the University is to set high standards in imparting knowledge in higher education and inculcating superior value systems among students. Candidates who wish to seek admission in the BCA course of the college should have passed his 12th grade from a recognised board in India.

 The student is usually advised to do a higher degree course after completing the BCA such as MBA or MCA. A candidate may only get backend work by doing just BCA in factories and industries. After completion of a Masters course, however, the student may get greater knowledge, wider scope and increased pay.
