The state of Punjab offers a wide range of options when it comes to picking the right medical college. Following are some top contenders:

Government Medical College (GMC)

Historically speaking, GMC was first instituted in Lahore in 1864. In 1920, it was shifted to Amritsar and since then it has gained a reputation as an exemplary medical college. It extends an M.B.B.S degree for a period of five years. In order to qualify for the same, the applicant must have studied Biology/Biotechnology, Physics, and Chemistry and should have cleared 12th grade or its equivalent from an approved board of education.  The candidate must also attain the required score in Punjab Medical Entrance Test (PMET).

Christian Medical College

 This college located in Ludhiana was established in 1894. It prides itself on being one of the first Asian medical colleges to accept women students. Its M.B.B.S program which began in 1953 has about 75 seats in each batch has trained about 2000 graduates. There are about 40 vacancies for students in the BDS course.

 Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMCH)

Dayanand Medical College is connected to Baba Farid University of Health and Science, Faridkot.  It extends the course of M.B.B.S whose time span is about 5 years. To bag one of the 100 seats offered for Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery one must obtain at least 50% marks with Science subject combination of biology, chemistry, and physics in their 10+2 exams. PMET needs to be passed with the required score.  The there hospital is quite modern and offers superb quality treatment.

 

Government Medical College

 Set up in the year 1951 in Patiala, the Government Medical College admits about 150 students in its M.B.B.S program. The candidates granted entry to the nursing course (B.Sc.) is 50 in number.  Apart from these two, the other courses of study include B.Sc. and M.Sc. in physiology, anatomy, and biochemistry. The college is affiliated to Rajindra Hospital which specializes in the treatment of Tuberculosis and Chest diseases. Hostel facilities for both boys and girls are available.

Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (AIMSR)

 

  Located in Bathinda, the institution offers an MBBS which covers the time span of about five and a half years. MBBS graduates are also required to a year of internship. Students can avail admission as per the terms and conditions specified by Adesh University. Only about 150 medical aspirants are admitted every year. The library computers serve as the medium to browse through research materials and journals. The departments are stocked well with the latest teaching apparatus.

Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS)

 Covering an expanse of 55 acres, PIMS or Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences is situated in Jalandhar. It was relatively recently established in 1999. The institution was set up following the public-private partnership mode (PPM).  The college prides itself because of its state of the art facilities.  It functions under the auspices of PIMS Medical & Education Charitable Society.

GGS Medical College, Faridkot

 The sprawling college campus comprises of a hostel, a clinical treatment facility which has 500 beds, and the main college building. Set up in 1973, the institute offers about 100 MBBS program seats. The various departments include Cardiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Neurosurgery etc.

Sri Guru Ramdas Institute of Medical Sciences & Research-[SGRIMS]

SGRIMS is located in the city of Amritsar.  Infrastructure includes an air-conditioned conference hall with a 400-seat capacity a Central Library.The new hospital has an abundant capacity housing more than 900 beds. Students are clinically taught at Sri Guru Ram Das Charitable Hospital. For MBBS, about 150 students can be admitted. The Medical Council of India has given permission for post graduate courses to be taught in the college.

Gian Sagar Medical College & Hospital-[GSMCH], Patiala

 GSMCH extends a 5-year M.B.B.S course. The subjects taught include Forensic Medicine, Pediatrics Surgery, General Medicine, Orthopedics, Oncology, Microbiology etc. The fee for MBBS is approximately around 6.6 lakhs.

Sri Guru Nanak Dev Homeopathic Medical College-[GNDHMC], Ludhiana

 Located in Ludhiana, GNDHMC or Sri Guru Nanak Dev Homeopathic Medical College was founded quite recently in 1992. It offers bachelor's in homeopathic medicine and surgery. The faculty provides exemplary teaching services.
