Dear Aspirant, you have asked good question. a degree in Geography from India and abroad, the difference, technically speaking there is no difference, but practically speaking there is lot of difference. Let me explain you things in detail.

A degree from any Indian university will make you eligible to compete for a job of geographer. Here geographer means a person holding a masters degree and it will be better to grow in career if having a doctoral degree.
Now another example, a degree from countries like USA, Canada, Australia, Germany and England, definitely your degree will be having more weight compared to an Indian or Asian degree, because it is general notion that the standard or teaching and research is better than ours. This thing also manifested that in recent list of top 100 and top 200 universities and institutions in the world, none of the Indian University and Institute could find a place. Even our IIT name was not there in the list.
The reason being is that the course curriculum, the experiments they conduct and the variety of instruments they use for research and teaching are not available with Indian Universities. The main reason for is the funds allocation. Indian universities are not being allocated enough funds to carry out research comparable to western universities.
Now let me give another practical example, I have worked for eight years in Gulf country, and people there always or most of the time prefer a person holding a western degree. It could be either master or doctoral of post doctoral fellowship. The person of Indian origin having a doctoral degree from Indian university will not be able compete a person whether Indian or Bangladeshi holding a degree from USA or Europe. There logic is justifiable that that person with a foreign degree knows more and is technically sound. This scenario is common in most of the middle east countries, and other Asian countries. This is reason that people from Asian or African countries try their level best to study in Western hemisphere.
In my opinion, if you get a chance to get admission in any foreign university (reputed one), then it will be better for your career, otherwise if do it from India, then for a hardworking person, there is no difference. He/she can easily make his or her place any where in the world.

Good Luck...
