An IAS officer works on the following areas in their day to day life:

• 
  The role of an IAS officer involves the implementation of the policies planned by the ministers. Therefore they conduct meetings with the ministers in order to understand the policies better.

• 
  They have to reach the office in team and read the daily report from the staff.


• 
  They have to travel to the places where the policies need to be implemented. Therefore they frequently visit to different places.

• 
  Personal supervision is required for each and every task. They have to keep an eye on everything that is going on.


• 
  Many urgent works may occur during the day. Let's say if emergency situation occurs in their area, as a part of administration they are responsible for it and have to react immediately.

• 
  Atthe beginning of their career IAS officers join the state administration at the sub-divisional level, as a sub-divisional magistrate, and look after law and order, general administration and development work in the area under their charge.


• 
  The main work of IAS officers at the Centre, involves formulation and implementation of policies pertaining to a particular area e.g., finance, commerce, etc.

An IAS Officer has to be a teacher,guide,official,leader,bureaucrat,inspector,philosopher,knowledgeable,disaster manager,communicator between people and the Govt.,task master,collector,magistrate and managing the administration wherever he or she is working.He/She is appointed by the Govt.in the public interest
