Firstly I would like to know why are you comparing two field like Interior designing and Event Management.


There is actually no comparison as such.
Both have their own pros and cons and depends on how much the person is interested to make their name in that field.

Event management is a pretty old concept in India, only that it is now taking a limelight position in India. Earlier it was restricted to only the elite class and media ( Film) fraternity.

Now it is a part of every household whoever wishes to have more glamorous way of celebration and with a budgeted spending.

Event Management as the name suggest Managing an event. Lets start from the basics, we all have been part of events, right from school days, like Annual day events, to elocution to DJ party, College fest, meetings, exhibitions, new year party, religious ceremony, birthday events and the likes.
Earlier these parties were arranged by the head of the family or few fiends or the management of the college or schools or organizations.
Now the trend is to be more trendy, with a party mood set-up, to the use of props, to lighting and not to forget the music, to decors and most importantly the dress code.
All this is managed by the "Event Manager".
An Event Manager has to do multi-tasking, right from laying down the plan to budgeting, to planning, to advertising, to marketing to distribution to co-ordination and packing up the event.


Earlier there was no such qualifications needed, any person with good communication skills, people skills, a good taste of decor and budgeting could help organize events. But now since everyone from a high income group to a middle income group is looking out to be glamorous, its come in as a course.

But Apart from the course, other skills required would be:
  • Creativity: A sense of being different from others available in the market. It should be an eye catcher
  • Public Relations: Apart from just organizing, you would have to deal with many people like the decor people, the musician and others. So unless and until you build yup a good rapport why would they work for you at your costs and benefit.
  • Marketing skills: You have all the talent, but dont know how to sell your product to the customer, it wont help you establish yourself and you wont have customers. Its essential to promote yourself.
  • Networking: How else would you get a contract for events, unless and until you maintain contacts with others. You need to be friendly but at the same time diplomatic.l But maintaining relations is very important as they would be the ones who would be promoting you in the market.
