Right now I am in 12 .it was my dream from childhood to be a doctor .i have joined a good coaching centre for this and due to this my mother and I are living seperately from my family because of my school.but as from a middleclass family I cant manage to have paid seat or taking admission in any private college .i know I can do this ,but in this world of competion I have lost my identity .in class +1 I was the topper of the institute but in +2 I was not able to get rank in even top 3. Many thanks for contacting us. Do not worry my child. I am there to guide you in this matter. I understand your interest in Biotechnology. You say you aspire to become a doctor. But studying Biotechnology you cannot becoming a Doctor though you can do a research degree in Biotechnology like a PhD and become a Doctorate. You will get the 'Dr' title even this way and it is prestigious. I have a daughter who also did her BTech Biotechnology some eight years back. From her time to now, biotechnology field has far improved in India I would say. I deeply understand your family issues in migrating to a place for studying. Be happy that your mother is supporting you and you are not standing alone in this struggle. Dont get depressed. You are still a top ranking student and not an average student or a failed student. With your high marks you can still get btech biotechnology seats.

You have confused the careers between MBBS and Biotechnology. MBBS is a pure and proper medical practice where you deal with patients. Biotechnology is different but has great links to the medical industry and industrial engineering. Biotechnology is vast considering fields like Genetics, Microbiology, Molecular biology, Industrial biotechnology, Bio chemistry, Bio organic chemistry, environmental biotechnology, cancer biology, plant biotechnology, animal biotechnology, bio ethics and many more. These are the subjects that you will study as a part of Btech biotechnology in India. If you want to work in hospitals after your BTech degree, you can choose such electives like 'cancer biotechnology' 'cell biology' as your Btech elective/major subjects. Choosing 'cancer biotechnology' or 'cell biology' you can work in hospital labs dealing with cancer patients. But you will be only doing the analysis of cancer patients but you wont treat them as a doctor will treat them. Hope you find the difference between MBBS and Biotechnology now.

If you aspire getting a 'Dr' title, you can certainly get it in biotechnology field too. Study 'Btech' degree first and get high scores. Then do 'MSc' biotechnology and then do a PhD Biotechnology. You can do MSc and PhD either in India or abroad. USA and UK are very good with biotechnology and research facilities. India is booming in this field and has already creating a landmark as the famous company 'Biocon' is based in India. Try doing some internships while studying your Btech to increase your knowledge and get some hands on experience. Lots of pharmaceutical companies and biotechnology research labs give summer projects and internships for college students. As said, this field has a lot of scope and it is up to you to develop yourself. You can trust this field for career scope very well. It is not that you should only do BTech biotechnology, BSc Biotechnology is also great. If you get BSc seats at any top universities in India, accept it. Your future will be great. All the best. My prayers for you, Feel cheered.
