Hi

References are slightly dangerous things. They're unlikely to get you the job, but they could make you lose it. So think about them carefully. You can also take this as a buying sign. The interviewers are not going to take up references of people they've already decided not to take. So smile confidently.  'Yes, that's fine. They are briefed that you might be getting in touch with them'.

The response should definitely be a confident 'YES'. Whether they will check or not is a risk you got to take

. If your response is very confident and unambiguous, they may decide not to check.

Hello

Generally interviewers ask this question when they think that the candidate has potential for the job. It is a positive sign for you. Don’t look worried or stressed. Say ‘Yes’ with a smile on your face.

Be careful when you list references in your resume. Two references are enough. Ideal way is one reference of your teacher, preferably project guide. Another one of guide for internship or external projects i.e. someone you have worked with. Let them know that you will be sharing their contact details in case the employer asks for. Hence, it will not be a surprise call for them.

All the best.

The very best way to present your references is not as a listing of contact on a sheet of paper, instead, ask each of your references to writing you a letter of recommendation.

There are two reasons for this.

  1. A letter of recommendation is a good way for you to find out who will provide you with best overall reference.
  2. You will be able to use as a ready-made reference to supply t a potential employee.

Following is a letter format to follow.

How they know you

how long have they known you

what they tink of you professionally or personally

and why they think you would be great--------------- recommendation

Then bring these letter of recommendation to provide full references request.
