What should I opt for? I'm really confused!?

I scored 9.6 in class IX. I'm a good student. I am an athlete and a guitarist/pianist, too. The thing is that I'm not sure which subject I like! My parents say that Engineering is the best. As the Indian trend, they want me to do, B.Tech, MBA, a job for 2 years and family business. But for me, money is not everything. I want to do something I love. I NEED HELP!

This is a very common problem that students of your age face and I can very well understand that it is extremely disturbing as well.


Many a times parents and children have different opinion about careers and probably both of them are right in their own respect. It is sometimes difficult to say who is right as both seemed equally right and convincing.

Though I am sure that you know yourself the best but your parents have their own experiences from which they are taking. Hencethe best way to deal such a problem is by opting for Career Counselling session that will help you find the right and best career for you.
It will be a comprehensive assessment of your Aptitude, Interest, Personality, Values etc.... which will tap your overall skills and then help you figure out the best career for yourself. It will help you in a better way.

Dear sometimes we are only driven by interest or even by looking at the best careers or what seems bets to us and we hardly know what we are good at. It is really confusion and misleading to opt for a career in this way and hence in this case the career assessment helps a lot.

You will also after this will be able to opt for the career objectively. It will also help you convince your parents about what you want and also you will your self get to know your strengths and limitations.

I am sure that your parents are also wanting the best for you and that is why they are forcing you to opt for careers they think are best for you.

Help your parents understand if you opt for a career that you are wanting you will be happy and not in the ones that they had thought for you.

Also it is pointless to opt for a career that you want to leave in the end wasting your precious years.
