Public relations is an important link in the process of mass communication. Public relations experts are usually graduates with a thorough understanding of social, cultural, economic and public affairs.

Ideally one can either pursue a one year post graduate diploma in public relations after graduation or can seek admission in a two years post graduate degree in mass communication.

Admission to such professional courses is usually based on the performance of an aspirant in entrance examination and personal interview. However while selecting candidates for the position of PR expert, recruiters give more weight-age to appropriate personality attributes and skills of an aspirant rather than educational qualification.

Therefore along with acquiring education qualification an aspirant keen of making a career as public relations professional must work on his communication skills. He should have excellent verbal and written communication. He should be adaptable and must possess the ability to get along with people from various walks of life. The PR professional is expected to possess an exceptional ability to persuade and convince and a calm temperament.
