Ali Hyder Rizvi (Ali) is the Co-Founder and Director of Gleam Educational Services which is a growing recruitment company with diverse area of interest with a single aim i.e. success.  His aim is to recommend right course for the right candidate after analysing their knowledge, skills, educational & financial background. He have 13 years of vast experience in Study Abroad Counselling for Indian Students. He speaks about his career and career counselling in an interview with Amarjeet.

Amarjeet Sharma (AS): Please brief us about your Educational background.

Ali: I have completed my Master in Business Administration dissertation specialized in recruitment and counselling.

AS: What has your time as a Career Counsellor meant to you personally and why?

Ali: I have been in the profession for close to 13 years now and over all these years I have grown professional and personally. It’s difficult to get such recognition in any other profession. I have been working for the betterment of the students in turn giving the society good citizens.

AS: How did you get into Career Counselling? What interested you into Career Counselling?

Ali: I started working as an academic advisor during my MBA and that the first step towards my career as a counsellor. The professional growth backed by self satisfaction.

AS: Why do you think it’s important for students and parents to undergo Career Counselling together?

Ali: Parents would play a key role in helping students take a decision if he/she are confused at any given point during the counselling session. Also it is important for the parents to know the investment factor.

AS: What are the top 3-5 skills you should have to become an effective Career Counsellor?

Ali: You need to be a good listener, should be skilful to map careers, you have to be convincing.

AS: What is your advice for newbies, who are looking at building a career in Career Counselling industry?

Ali: It’s one of the best profession to be in, you need to have the urge to learn and able to dispense knowledge. This career will give you both professional growths as well and social recognition.

AS: There are many new career options that have come up over the last decade which was not heard of before, how do you stay updated on the latest trends in Career?

Ali: As an education counsellor it is important to keep abreast with the knowledge of new career options. It’s important to read the newspaper primarily, keep in communication with the Institutions on a regular basis, subscribe for career journals and maintain a strong communication within our colleagues in within our fraternity.

AS: Which are the Career Information resources (i.e. newsletters/ blogs/ websites/ apps) you visit regularly?

Ali: I mostly follow prominent individuals on Twitter, subscribe to a few journals online and review blogs randomly.
