The Pradhanmantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana or the PM Kisan Yojana is implemented by the central sector as a scheme by the Government of India. The Prime minister of India Narendra Modi launched the PM Kisan scheme on February 24, 2019. It came into effect on December 1, 2018. The PM Kisan Yojana aims to help all small and marginal farmers with an amount of Rs. 6,000 per year as minimum income support.

The amount of Rs. 6,000 is given in three installments every year. The scheme aims to cover 125 million farmers regardless of the size of their landholding in India. The annual expenditure is expected to be Rs. 75,000 crore which will be financed by the union government. Under the scheme, it will identify the farmer families which are eligible for support as per scheme guidelines and the amount will be directly transferred to their bank accounts. Under this scheme, the money will be transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiary this is one of the government initiatives to modernize agriculture.

Eligibility

Who are eligible for benefits under the PM Kisan scheme-

  1. Landholding farmer’s families with cultivable land holding can apply under the scheme.
  2. Farmers from both rural and urban areas.
  3. Small and marginal farmer’s family.

Who are not eligible for benefits under the PM Kisan Scheme

  • Any institutional landholders. 
  • Farmer or member of the family belonging to the following list-
  • An individual who paid their income tax in the last assessment year is not eligible under the scheme.
  • Retired pensioners who get a monthly pension of rupees 10,000 or more.
  • Any serving or retired officer and employees under the central or state government department.
  • Former and present chairpersons of District Panchayats.
  • Former and present municipal corporations.
  • Former or present member of any government council.
  • Former and present state minister or ministers.
  • Former and present holders of national post professionals like doctors, engineers, lawyers chartered accountants, and architects who are registered with professional bodies.

Basic details are required for the registration including Name, Age, Gender, Category(SC/ST),  or any other prescribed documents for identification.
