UPPSC Age Limit (Indian Nationality)

  • Minimum age- 21 years 
  • Maximum age- 40 years

UPPSC exam selection process

The UPPSC selection process happens in three stages which are–

  • Civil services (Preliminary) examination 
  • Civil services (Main) examination
  • Interview (Personality test)

Preliminary examination

The preliminary examination consists of two compulsory papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2.The prelims exam is based on different political systems, Panchayati Raj, general issues, poverty rights, issues, etc. The other paper consists of logical reasoning, general mental ability, and others.

The nature of the question is of objective type and they are conducted offline. Both papers are of 200 marks each and of two hours duration. Candidates need to score 33% marks in Paper 2.

2) Mains examination 

Candidates who cleared the preliminary examination are called for the mains examination. The UPPSC mains examination is descriptive in nature. Candidates are expected to write answers in essay form. There are few compulsory subjects and optional subjects.

Mains examination is conducted over a week’s duration and each paper is for three hours. The marks secured in the UPPSC main exam are the deciding factor in the final selection.

3) Interview (Personality Test)

This is the last round of the UPPSC exam candidates qualified mains exam are called for a personal interview. The interview is of 100 marks and the candidates are interviewed by an experienced Board appointed by the UPPSC who are unbiased in their observation.

The personal interview or personality test assesses the suitability of a candidate for the State Civil Services.

In the personality test apart from academic study, the candidate’s general knowledge is also tested. The candidate must be aware of the affairs happening both within and outside the country and state.

The interview is intended to explore the mental capabilities, traits, and analytical skills of a candidate.

UPPSC and UPSC both sound similar but they hold significant differences.
