Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) was formed on 1 April 1937 by the government of Uttar Pradesh. It has different chairmen and members. The exam is almost the same, the format is changed a little.  It conducts exams like ACF/FRO, APS, state civil service examination, assistant professor examination, regional inspector examination, assistant engineer examination, etc. UPPSC is for the posts like SDM, DSP, Inspector, different officers, etc.

UPPSC eligibility:

Students need to be at least a bachelor’s to apply to the UPPSC exam. Students can be BA, B.SC, BBA, or B.E. pass-out. The aspirant’s age range should be from 21 years to 40 years. Some UPPSC posts have specific criteria to be eligible to apply. Like students should have an engineering degree, sociology, or other specific specialization to apply for that post. Posts like a police officer, commandant, home guard, etc have height criteria too.

The function of UPPSC: 

According to the post and type of vacancy, candidates need to appear. Some posts are through a direct interview, and others may have an exam and interview or go through prelims and mains exam. Its pattern and, preparation is like the UPSC exam. Appearing in both the papers is compulsory for candidates. There are 29 optional subject options for the candidates like agriculture, botany, law, management, geology, Hindi, Urdu, etc.

Strategy and study plan:

Students should study from selected books and prepare self-notes. Always do multiple revisions of topics. To be interested in exams, subjects and syllabus is an important part to score well. Make clarity of how much time you will be giving to a particular section of the paper in the exam. While studying make your concepts strong. Also if you are not good with facts you can skip writing them. Though the UPPSC exam is divided into prelims, mains, and, interview the whole preparation goes integrated. 

Optional subject:

Preparing for the optional subject and choosing an optional subject in the UPPSC exam is also important. Give priorities to the subject which you have studied till graduation. And whose material is available easily at your place or city. You will be studying the optional subject for a minimum of one-year duration. Guidance is helpful but always chosen according to your liking.

Exam pattern:

There are prelims, mains, and interview aspirants need to give. After clearing the prelims exam students become eligible for the mains exam, and after clearing mains students are eligible for the interview. A merit list is made based on paper one. And in paper two students need to have at least 33% to pass paper two.

The UPPSC prelim exam has two papers. Paper one is of 200 marks and has current affairs, Indian history, general knowledge, etc. Students can take the last five year’s paper to help to prepare. Paper two is of 200 marks of 2 hours. Reasoning, general ability, mathematics, English, Hindi, etc are subjects in it.

The mains exam has compulsory subjects. It has Hindi and an essay paper of 150 marks. And four general studies paper’s of 200 marks. The optional subject also has two papers of 200 marks. And optional subject marks are really game-changing to get a good post.

Coaching classes vs. self-study:

How to prepare for the exam varies from aspirant to aspirant. In this digital age, a lot of material and helpful information is available online. A student also prepares himself and takes test series and special series to prepare. By knowing the syllabus and following standard books preparations can be done. Many students prefer to go for coaching classes too. It can take one year, four years, or more to qualify for the UPPSC government exam. So it is an individual’s choice to prepare with or without coaching classes.  

Interview:

An interview is taken by board members. There are five members on the board. Students should be updated with current affairs and have good knowledge of the optional subject. Personality is important but knowledge is more important. Be confident and honest while giving your interview.

Points to remember:

  • Students can give the UPPSC exam in Hindi too.
  • Giving mock tests will help you and increase speed and confidence too.
  • Students should prepare subjects for writing content.
  • Preparing notes help in easy revision. Always make notes after two to three readings.
  • Exam cracking and preparation can take one year or more. And can vary from aspirant to aspirant.
  • Reading newspapers is a simple and good habit for exams. 
  • If the exam requires writing parts and figures then include them in the answer. 
  • Always read notifications carefully regarding the exam.
  • Students also prefer to prepare from 9th and 10th class books, NCERT books to make their basics strong.
