An AME is an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. This profession has been recognized by the International Aviation Organization. After one completes his class 12 along with science and math’s as subjects, one is eligible to appear for different exams that recruit such engineers. To be precise one such exam is the AME CET exam.
What after the entrance exams?
An aircraft maintenance engineer is first given a training of around 4 to 5 years after which one is eligible to get a license approved from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The license is provided after one passes a government examination to test practical capabilities and this is conducted by the DGCA itself.
The license is also called the commercial pilot license. Once one has this license one is eligible to opt for jobs both in the public and private sector in the country. One must be informed that the 4-5 year training period is not a course or a diploma and does not fetch a degree to a candidate.
The abovementioned AME CET examination is conducted on a national basis and if one manages to get a rank within 500, then one can go to one of the best flying schools of India. The period of training is a rigorous one which follows a very strict schedule.
Engineers are not only taught how to maintain various parts of commercial and civil planes but are also taught to fly two types of planes, both of which are commercial or civil. The engineers study parts of the plane not only to a practical approach but also through a theoretical upload just as college classes and have regular examinations on the subject of aerodynamics and mathematics.
Why to Choose this Career?
This career choice brings a handsome salary of around 12 to 15 lacs per annum at the middle level of the career. When one starts off one can earn around 7 lacs per annum. Moreover there might be many candidates who are interested in aviation but do not want to go into defence or the Air force in general. Civil Aviation is an ideal career for such aspirants.
