NDA trains aspirants to go into the national defense academy. It will give you career options like the Indian Air force, the Indian army, and the Indian Navy. If you are desperate and want to do something for your country then this is definitely one of the options for you.

NDA

NDA is the first military academy that trains officers. It is the best training institute in India and its training is provided in Pune. NDA trains all the three aspirants for India one exam and three best options. It is a three-year course and has 6 semesters. Every 6 months there is an exam. The last six months are according to your particular area or trade training (air force, army, navy). The trade academy varies, army cadets will join Indian Military Academy, navy cadets will join Indian Navy Academy, and air-force cadets will join Indian Air-force Academy.

Requirements

Students can apply during the 10+2 exam or after the 10+2 exam. Candidates appearing in class 12th or equivalent exam can apply. Candidates appearing in the class 11th exam are not eligible. If you are a dropper then also you can apply. There is no number of attempts for the exam. You can be updated through the UPSC website. For the Indian navy and air force, students need to have physics and maths as compulsory subjects in their class 11th. Students after bachelors can also go in defense but with different entrance exams.

Indian Naval Cadets

Indian Navy cadets will have other aspects if they are recommended by the 10+2 entry scheme they will have the opportunity for the B.Tech course. This four-year course will give you options like electronics and communication engineering, mechanical engineering specialization in naval architect, and applied electronic and communication engineering. A cadet can choose one of the courses from these three courses.

There are two branches for aspirants. First is flying branch, and second for ground duty. The training period will be one and a half years.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

Subjects include mathematics which will be of 300 marks and general ability which will be of 600 marks. Students will get two and a half an hour for both the papers. And questions will be of objective types. There will also be an interview. Calculators, log tables, etc are not allowed in the exam.   

The mathematics syllabus will have algebra, metrics, determinants, trigonometry, 2D and 3D geometry, calculus, vector, statics, and probability. The general ability test will have two parts. Part A will be in English and it will be 200 marks. Part B which will be of 400 marks, will contain general knowledge which will have questions from physics, chemistry, general science (bio), history, geography, and current events

Overall Selection Process

NDA (National Defence Academy) has a little different interview compared to other job interviews. Therefore it is also known as the Intelligence and Personality Test conducted by SSB. A student is observed carefully, and personal skills are really important. It is a two-stage process. Stage one has tested like officer intelligence rating, picture perception test, and description test. Stage two will have interviews, group tasks, psychology tests, and conferences. There are some physical standards requirements also which students need to follow.

What to do After Passing

The cadets are given degrees in Bachelor of Arts or science after completion of their training. Students need to pay the fee and it will include insurance, clothing and equipment, and expenditures. The total fee for the first semester will be 45,000 INR to 48,000 INR. The best part after clearing the exam is that when you become a gentlemen cadet a stipend will be provided to you. During the entire duration of the training, 50,000 INR to 55,000 INR per month will be given to you.

To clear in the first attempt, read out some tips for preparations.

  • NDA aspirants should join defense forces with passion and not as a source of job.
  • As an aspirant one should be physically as well as mentally strong. 
  • The mathematics level in this exam is medium. It is lower than that of the JEE Main exam.
  • There will be negative markings in the exam.
  • Check for the cut-off of past years.
  • Coaching is not compulsory or required, but if you want you can join the classes. 
  • Study in a healthy environment
  • To crack any exam practice is most important. 
  • Learn with time management.
