India has given more athletes this year compared to many past years. Becoming a sportsperson or athlete is a tough task. It needs a lot of hard work, sacrifices, and effort. But after getting selected in the Olympics, you not only make your family proud but also the whole country.

How to qualify for the Olympics

There is really less information about the Olympics and getting selected in it. There is a lot of selection that happens according to your performance. Eight years to twenty-five years is the age criteria for the persons to apply.

There are also team and individual selections. Sportspersons who achieve the best four positions and in a team a player who achieve the first four positions, or represented India as a member of the team in any tournament are considered for selection by SAI.

Selectors who select sports players see many things in a candidate. Running, stepping, jumping, high knees, push-ups, kicks, rope, bout, throws, etc are activities that a candidate should do properly.

Nutrition and diet play an important role for every person but for players, it is a must to take care of. When the body’s working increases or changes nutrition amount needs to be balanced and checked. It is something which you need to do for yourself regarding other external factors and help.

Some states have more enthusiasm and opportunities for the player’s others do not. Create an opportunity for yourself.

There are different schemes in the field of sports on the basis of which selections is done and the eligibility of players is decided. National Centre of Excellence (NCOE), SAI Training Centre (STC), Special Area Games, Extension Centre of STC, National Sports Academics (NSA), Army Boys Sports Companies (ABSC), National Sports Talent Contest (NSTC).

Games: 

On the basis of types, games are also divided into two categories. Some games are single-plyer and others are played in a team.

Priority Discipline:

Archery, badminton, boxing, cycling, table tennis, wrestling, weightlifting, etc. Other discipline are football, handball, kabaddi, kho-kho, para-sports, volleyball, wushu, etc.

Documents and facilities:

There are different certificates one needs when selection is done. Aadhar card, birth certificate, educational certificate, medical certificate, sports achievement certificate, etc are important.

Be careful with your full name and date of birth in these documents.  Facilities are food, stay, educational expenses, medical expenses, insurance, sports kit, stipend, etc according to your sports background will be given.

Extra tips

  • Young athletes need to work hard but with joy. If after training too much you will be too exhausted it will make you demotivated to continue. 
  • In case, you can not make your training your lifestyle you will be unable to maintain it for a long time. 
  • If you are not selected in any scheme you can again apply after six months.
  • Some sports have more fame and opportunities and there are no specific reasons. Never go in any other sports just because your game has less opportunity or fame. 
  • Discipline and regular practice are a must in this field.
  • Criteria vary according to the level you are playing.
