An air hostess is a person who works as a flight attendant, or cabin crew, in the aviation industry. The requirements for qualification as an air hostess are not standardized internationally and may vary by country of employment.

Some common pre-requisites across most airlines

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Age 18 or over
  • Minimum height & BMI (required by some airlines)
  • Valid passport with unrestricted access to all countries served by the airline
  • Good physical and mental health with no criminal history
  • Married or unmarried (depends on the airline you apply to)
  • An air hostess can expect to earn a salary of $40,000 to $50,000. This salary varies by the airline and the country that she is working in.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

To become an air hostess, you need to go through several rounds of interviews and tests.
The first step in the recruitment process is a written exam that tests your ability to solve aptitude, logic, and reasoning questions.
After you qualify for the first round, you need to sit in a group discussion. You will be evaluated on your ability to speak with a crowd, attentiveness, confidence, teamwork and leadership skills, etc.

If you also qualify for the group discussion round, you will be considered for a personal interview, following which you can start your training to become an air hostess.

SOME OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WOULD INCLUDE

  • Checking the aircraft for cleanliness and safety equipment, making sure that the meal kits and the magazines for the seat pockets are available. 
  • Greeting and guiding passengers to help them sit in their designated seats. 
  • Serving meals and refreshments.
  • Making announcements, along with pre and post-checks.
  • Preparing flight reports.
  • Ensuring the safety of passengers and answering their queries. 
  • Making sure that all passengers put on their seat belts and the overhead bins are closed. 
  • Providing emergency medical care.
