Lala Lajpat Rai College of Commerce and Economics is a private college affiliated with Mumbai University. It was established in 1972, making it one of the oldest institutes in Mumbai. It is accredited A by NAAC. It is ranked the 8th best college for Commerce in Mumbai, India. 

It offers courses like Bachelor of Commerce ( B.Com ), Bachelor of Accounting & Finance ( B.A.F ), Bachelor of Management Studies ( B.M.S. ), Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM), Bachelor of Banking & Insurance (BBI), and Bachelor of Science ( B.Sc ) in Information Technology at the undergraduate level.

The eligibility for the aforementioned courses is 10+2 or equivalent in any stream with a 45% aggregate mark. The admission is merit-based.
The duration of the B.Com course is 3 years and its fee for 1 year is INR 16,941. The total number of seats for the B.Com program is 480. The specializations available in the course are General B.Com, Accounting & Finance, and Banking & Insurance.

The placement is decent, with almost 60-70% of students being placed at companies like Bajaj Finserv, AB Stocx, ICICI, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, Mahindra, and Mahindra, etc. Some students also got a job in companies like Audi, BMW, Tata Consultancy Services, and Infosys.

1) Tell us about your experience of studying at MU( Lala Lajpat Rai College ) for 1 year.

Lala Lajpat Rai College is really good if studying is your focus. They also give you a nice networking experience as you can be friends with students studying in different colleges affiliated with Mumbai University.

2) What was the cutoff for your branch last year?

There was no cut-off as the selections are merit-based. You are selected based on our high school marks and the number of seats available.

3) How is the faculty?

Mumbai University ( Lala Lajpat Rai College ) has a very great faculty. Teachers and Staff are very cooperative and sweet.

4) How many students are there per class?

In my class, there are 60 students.

5) Are the online classes interactive?

Yes, they are kind of interactive.

6) What extracurricular activities do the teachers suggest to you?

Our teachers, seniors, and classmates suggest participating in all competitions and internships in the finance field.

7) What extracurricular activities does MU ( Lala Lajpat Rai College ) offer?

 Our college gives us the opportunity of participating in fests and competitions, both of and other colleges in Mumbai University. This increases competition and also enables the students to experience the culture of other colleges too.

8) Were there any hidden charges apart from the ones mentioned on their website?

No, there were no hidden charges.

9) How's the startup culture at MU ( Lala Lajpat Rai College )?

 I have not experienced it yet, but the education they provide, the course curriculum is up to date and bridges the gap between industry and college. So it is useful for every student whether they want to get into a job or start their venture. The college is very supportive of startups and helps students.

10) How is your college conducting exams online?

We have online assignments and tests. The tests are mostly objective.

11) What's the best thing and the worst thing about MU ( Lala Lajpat Rai College ) that you have observed to date?

The best thing in Lala Lajpatrai is the teaching faculty, and I have heard that the library is great. I hope to visit it as soon as the colleges open for in-person classes and I haven’t experienced anything bad yet.

12) How is the course curriculum?

It’s very up-to-date and apt for the future.

13) Is there anything else you would like to tell the readers?

You should consider this college if you want to pursue a specialization ( Accounting & Finance ). Lala Lajpatrai is a really good college for it. Our principal is very approachable and tries to help us out in any way possible.
