When you were in school you must have dreamt once in your life that you want to become a scientist. The same dream was once dreamt by a very great scientist Dr. OMI Jahangir Baba. He then also went ahead nurtured the talent hidden inside the students which helped lead our country towards wondrous heights in Science and Technology.
But in some cases, it so happens that the student’s financial condition is so poor that he/she is forced to leave his/her studies in the early period and take up a job or complete his studies somehow and then pursue a job which will aid the financial needs of the family. So to avoid this and give a better life the government of launched an exam which can help students in achieving the dream of becoming a scientist.
This exam is known as KVPY (Kendra Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana) Scholarship Examination. This exam offers fellowship and scholarship to students who have exceptional talent and intelligence. This examination is a part of the ongoing national fellowship programs related to the Basic Sciences funded by the Science and Technology Department of India for helping students pursue their dream career in Basic Science and take up a research course in the Science Discipline. Also, the objective of this exam is to make the students realize their academic potential and make them realize that besides their poor conditions or unavailability of proper facilities of education they can pursue a very excellent career in research and development.
KVPY Scholarship examination has by far helped students build a very successful career and also helped the development of the country in the field of Science and Technology. The exam is conducted by the Indian Institute of Sciences Bangalore.

The KVPY Scholarship examination is conducted annually between the 11th-15th of May and the Interviews are conducted in July. The students eligible for this exam are the students in 11th Standard to the students pursuing M.Sc. The students have to give the MCQ examination and based on the marks they are called for an interview and then based on the performance they are awarded scholarships until they complete their education in research that is the Ph.D. and pre Ph.D. level. The examination is a 3-hour long and is conducted only in online mode. The language of the exam is either English or Hindi. There are three categories of students who appear for this exam which are given below:-

- SA = 11th Class Students
- SB = Students involved in Applied Science Undergraduate Program
- SX = Students in the 12th Standard
Based on these categories the questions are asked to the students in the MCQ format. The format of the questions asked for the SA Branch students are as follows:-

The time given for the SA Division is 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM and for the SB and SX division, the given time is 2:00 to 5:00 PM. The Marking Scheme for this exam is +1/-0.25, +2/ -0.25. After this examination the students who excel with good marks are called for an interview and lots of questions are asked to them regarding their field and the career they want to pursue; then after that, they are rewarded with the particular scholarships as per the talent and capacity.
Annually almost 3281 students qualify for the round of interviews 2531 students are awarded scholarships or fellowships. The highest fellowship offered is 5000/- per month.
