Responsibilities and skills of Ayurveda Healer

  • Assessment of dietary habits, lifestyle and mental state of the patient.
  • Thorough examination of patients’ by investigating them, feeling their pulse rate, seeing their physical condition.
  • Prescribing of medication for overall health improvement and prevention of diseases.
  • Expertise in treatment of diseases and disorders such as diabetes, tuberculosis, nervous and mental disorders and diseases peculiar to children, men and women.
  • Preparation and selling of tonics, patents and other indigenous medications like bhasms.
  • Interest in native forms of medicine and curative properties of herbs.
  • Good listening, thinking and observational skills.
  • Should be empathetic and patient with the people who come for consultation.
  • Excellent knowledge in the relevant field.
  • Assimilation and interpretation of data.

Academic Education

  • Completion of 10+2 by a recognized board with physics, chemistry and biology courses with an aggregate of 50%.
  • Qualify for the entrance exam and pursue Bachelors of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS).
  • Completion of post-graduation i.e., MD or MS in Ayurveda will be an added benefit.
  • Doctorate or PhD in the concerned subject of specialization is available after post-graduation.

An individual who has completed the degree of B.A.M.S can get employed in government and private institutions. In the government sector, the B.A.M.S graduates can get a salary of Rs 20,000- Rs 50,000 per month. In the private sector, the applicants have better salary and package depending on their hard work and effort. There are huge openings for Ayurvedic doctors with excellent salary package in private sector hospitals and nursing homes.
