Taking Advantage of the Increasing Automated Job Market

Those who follow the job market will always be concerned about the near future, when automation takes over many of the rote duties that humans currently perform. As more labour becomes machine-centric, traditionally occupied positions will gradually go away in favour of tasks that demand a sharp human mind or complicated problem solving that can not be solved by machines. Surprisingly, in its early stages, automation will create more employment than it eliminates.

More machinery equals more jobs

If you’ve worked in the tech business for any length of time, you’re well aware that machines can not run themselves. In the last year, nearly 2.7 million new jobs have been created as technology advances, with the goal of eventually replacing more repetitive activities. It is not sufficient to simply have machines in situ; humans must also be there to invent, maintain, repair, deploy, and oversee mechanical solutions to human problems. Job creation is the name of the game right now, but that trend may not endure. There are legitimate concerns about losing traditional industrial and assembly line jobs, which are sometimes described as monotonous and uninteresting.

Approximately one out of every seven jobs is at risk of being lost, and up to a third of all occupations could be seriously restructured as computers take over various areas of the workplace. A shift from line labour to administrative and training positions occurs throughout this developmental stage, allowing for smooth career transfers. While it may seem normal to be concerned about job loss, shifting attention from the bottom of the work pyramid to at least one step higher is significantly more beneficial.

The not-so-hidden human component

Current job automation systems have a hard time grasping abstract notions and have a lot of trouble with managerial jobs. A machine may be able to locate data points in a résumé or plot plausible causes of stock price dips, but they will struggle for a long time with long-term planning and human interaction. Human CEOs cannot be meaningfully replaced by machines, and this trend will necessitate significant advances in machine learning before their jobs are jeopardized. Many executive roles require university education, which is understandable given that just a quarter of employment requiring a bachelor’s degree or higher is at risk of becoming automated. Given that human resource departments are already pushing for automated hiring processes that identify suitable candidates early in the screening process and even set up interviews without human participation, there are some surprising entries on that list.

Many institutions are pushing for the earlier introduction of new courses in order to prevent students from becoming stuck in a learning rut that will be more difficult to break free from when the job market evolves. Those who have already completed their primary school are the most vulnerable to being left behind, and adjusting to a sudden absence of manual labour jobs after decades in the sector can be a difficult task for some.

Having Good LinkedIn Is As Important As Good Resume

The market is evolving, not contracting

If you are concerned about your job security, act now, rather than later, when the digital revolution is still in its early stages. Learning new skills, broadening your network, or even pursuing a degree are all good places to start. Those who actually want to profit from automation should keep an eye on the trend and look for a position that matches their skill set to the industry’s demands as it develops. As workplaces evolve, mechanical jobs, programming, and even machine team oversight will all require additional hands. Though some jobs will only exist in fairy tales, the so-called robotic revolution poses a minimal threat. Many industries will see a boost in employment prospects, but taking advantage of these developments will require vision and a plan to adapt before it’s too late. Expect your workplace to not wait for you to adjust to automation.
