If you know only about medical exams, medical courses, and medical jobs as a biology student then there is more to read. It is a misconception that careers for biology students end at ‘medical’.

For course admission there are national and state-level exams for biology students: AIMPT (All India Pre Medical Test), AIIMS, NEET (The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test), AIPGMEE (All India Post Graduate Medical/Dental Entrance Exam), AFMC (Armed Forces Medical College) entrance, etc. Student’s can opt for the following career opportunities:

Biotechnology

Field that combines technology and biology utilizes cells in an industrial process. You can go into nutrition, cosmetics, animal husbandry, the agricultural field, etc. Job opportunities include areas to improve our life including safer fuels, improving crop yields, developing drugs to deal with diseases.

Botany

Branch involves the study of plants, their growth, and structure. You will get working opportunities in fields like natural resource centers, landscape industries, horticulturists, etc. Delhi University, Mount Carmel College, Presidency College are some of the top college students take admission.

MBBS

MBBS(Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) is a 5.5 years popular medical degree. You will read about human anatomy, medicine, chemistry and drug formation, and the method of surgery in this course. You need to clear the NEET-UG exam to take admission for the course, famous colleges like AIIMS, IIMS, etc. Career options include junior doctor, doctor, physician, surgeon, researcher, scientist, etc.

BDS

BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is a five-year course regulated by the Dental Council of India, and is the second most chosen course by students after MBBS. You will study microbiology, dental, human anatomy, dental science subjects in this course. Colleges take admission based on the NEET exam, and some colleges have their separate exam too.

BHMS

BHMS (Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery) is a 5.5-year course. Many universities give BHMS course admission to students but for government colleges, students can take admission through national level and state level exams.

BAMS

BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) is a 5.6 years course. This course is based on Ayurveda and ancient time’s knowledge about medicine. Admission in college is based on national-level exams like NEET and state-level exams. Career options include lecturer, pharmacist, physicist, ayurvedic doctor, scientist, therapist, etc.

B.Pharma

B.Pharma is a four-year undergraduate degree regulated by Pharmacy Counseling of India. Admission can be taken directly or based on the university entrance exam. Career opportunities include mostly in the pharma field.

B.Sc

B.Sc (Bachelor of Science) is a three-year degree course. You will learn subjects which will build your foundation for science subjects. Admission is based on the entrance exam, 12th based percentage or you have the option to take direct admission. You can do B.Sc in physics, chemistry, biology, home science, etc. You can become a teacher, nurse in the government and private sector. For good packages, you can do M.Sc and MBA.

B.Sc Nursing

B.Sc Nursing is a four years course. For taking admission in government colleges you need to appear for national and state-level exams. Job area involves hospitals, railways, defense, nursing homes, and clinics.

BPT

BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy) is a four years course where you can take admission through the CET (Common Entrance Test) exam. You have job opportunities in hospitals, fitness centers, private clinics, health institutes, etc.

BOT

BOT (Bachelor of Occupational Therapy) is a 4.5-year course. You need to crack entrance exams to take admission to college. Job responsibilities include helping physically and mentally challenged people. After the experience, you can become a consultant, nurse, lecturer, therapist, technician, etc.

BOUMS

BOUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery) is a 5.5 years course regulated by the (CCIM) Central Council of Indian Medicine. 35 to 40 colleges are providing this course. For taking admission to these government institutes you need to clear national and state level exams. Job opportunities are scientist, consultant, hakim, pharmacist, and lecturer.

BMLT

BMLT (Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology) is a three years course. It is also known as the Medical laboratory technology program. You can take admission through entrance exams. You can become a lab technologist and microbiologist after completing the course. Job responsibilities include analysis of diseases in the lab or clinic.

D.Pharma

D.Pharma ( Diploma in Pharmacy) is a two-year diploma course regulated by Pharmacy Counseling of India. Government colleges take entrance exams for admission. Technical supervisor, pharmacist, scientist, medical transcriptionist, and officers are some job opportunities after completing the course.

DMLT

DLMT(Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology) is a two-year diploma course to become a medical technologist. Admission in colleges is through entrance exams.

These are some trending courses mostly followed by Medical students. Every field requires hard work and dedication. After a bachelor’s degree students can take up a master’s and then research courses. After experience in the field, you can find better career options. Defense and Marine, Fashion designing, art and humanities, learning languages, etc. these are some off-track courses for students.
