The phase of life when a person has to understand his/her role as an adult is known as adulting. Not a reward for many I would say. It is a term introduced by millennials. People often misinterpret this idea. The law may consider you as an adult once you turn 18. But think, can an age decide a phase for you? Adulting is related to mental maturation. Bills, taxes, responsibilities are heavy terms of survival. But do you start with them the movement you cut that cake? No! some may get mentally mature way before 18 while some won’t even understand the idea of maturity till age 25! It all depends on the environment you are brought up in, the nurture you receive, and your attitude towards yourself. It’s not an easy task considering, you come from a childhood that was easier than this change you will be forced to accept.

This article will discuss some of the notions or the heavy terms that come with adulting as well as help you overcome them. These may even make you say “adulting sucks!”

Confusion and change

During adulting, you get advised by relatives, parents, cousins, and even neighbors! That one question “page kya karoge” (what are your plans for the future?) just doesn’t stop. You face a lot of criticism for your choices. The change is huge as you will be responsible for yourself in a few years. You might still be figuring it out. The sad part is it’s not just your career. Every smallest decision may seem hectic like favorite chocolate or hobby!

Chores?

If you are away from your family working or studying, chores give you a hard time. At this stage eating from the cookware may seem fine but for how long? Piles of dirty laundry, cleaning the house (mop that floor once a week at least!) Between working/ studying and doing the chores how long can you survive?! (endless cycle: the horror)  

Bills and tax.

Bills? Oh, I’ve heard of that…but taxes? Our education system fails to mention these two things. Turns out they are the most important part of your adulting ages! One of the biggest reasons why adulting sucks! You happily go to work (as a fresher) and get an income of 18,000 per se? And then you lose more than half the money to pay for the water you drink and the house you live in!

Emotional Bag!

Blame the hormones all you want but deep down you know you got yourself that backpack. Replying to that snarky girl of the class didn’t seem right as you wished to avoid drama? In the process of understating your conscience, things remain unsaid.

Work

Peace of mind? What’s that?  With work comes stress and sometimes it’s too much to tackle! No matter how good you are at work. These times often make you miss childhood.

Relationships

One concept that has the potential to disrupt your life. Attraction, like, and love are concepts of mere confusion if not successfully expressed. For the first time, you have to make time for someone who grew close over time. It could get overwhelming. 

How to tackle them? 

• Boost self-esteem: Trust yourself. Your decisions are by your choices, have faith in them. Self-criticism could lead down the ladder of success if not taken well. Talk to yourself or keep a journal to remind yourself who you are!
• Take breaks: There is no harm in taken a day off. Use this time to reflect on potential growth. Do something unexpected; trekking, weaving, sketching, to give your brain a break from your daily routine.
• Care: spend time with parents, friends, and partners. Show them, you care. Be kind and generous. These attributes are known to have a long-term effect on the human mind. Your relationships need care. Though don’t overdo it! 
• Learn: You aren’t aware of bills and taxes! Ask someone with experience or experts to help you out. Self-research if too shy to ask.  
• Eat and sleep well: Most important of all, take care of yourself. Don’t forget your body too will be going through changes with you working hard. Eat healthy food. Don’t guilt eat! Maintain your sleep cycle. You may break it once a while but don’t make it a habit for Netflix.

Conclusion

Adulting is an important stage and needs acknowledgment, not everybody’s but yours. Appreciate it. Childhood was long gone. It’s time to accept the change without hating it. It’s not as bad as people make it seem. Being an adult has its perks and if you can’t see them, make them!
