Mental health signifies a person’s emotional, social and psychological well-being. It influences ones thought, feeling and behaviour. Mental health is often alluded to as behavioural health and more important than our physical health.

What are Mental Disorders?

These are pressing conditions that can affect your thinking, mood and behaviour. They may have long term effects and affect the ability to function each day. Mental disorders are usual these days and, there are treatments. People with mental disarray can get better and recover completely. Always remember that mental illness does not define who you are. These are something you experience. So don’t be scared of being mentally ill.

Good mental health helps to cope with the stresses of life. It also maintains your physical health. But mental disorders can increase the risk for stroke, diabetes, and heart diseases. Many things can affect your mental health like biological factors, life experiences, irregular lifestyle, trauma etc. Mental health problems also lead to social issues like unemployment, broken families, poverty, drug abuse and many more.

1. Manage Stress

You can always avoid excess stress by knowing its reasons and how to cope up with it. Try not to take much stress, and manage your responsibilities and worries by making a schedule of your free time to resolve those. Avoid taking unnecessary pressure and face it bravely. Share your problems and agonies with your family. It will help you in managing stress.

2. Meditation

Meditation only gives rest to our brain. It makes you mentally strong and fights difficulties in life. Daily meditation helps you manage stress and diseases. It is better to make a habit of practicing meditation daily.

3. Activity and Exercise

Physical activities and exercises help you to maintain good mental health and fight depression. Being active helps to boost chemicals in your brain and always make you stress-free and happy. Exercising helps to eliminate low mood, anxiety, stress, tiredness and laziness.

Sleep is essential for mental as well as physical health. It regulates the chemicals in the brain that helps in better coordination. Enough sleep helps to manage moods and emotions. Lack of sleep leads to depression and anxiety-related problems.

5. Avoid Alcohol, smoking and Drugs

Drinking and smoking affect your mental health to a large extent. Drinking can make you more stressed or depressed the next day. They may make you feel stress-free for some time but makes you weaker. Consumption of alcohol and drugs results in thiamine deficiency which is crucial for our brain function. Lack of thiamine can lead to severe problems like memory, eye and coordination problems. Therefore, to maintain a superior mental state, avoid consumption of alcohol, cigarettes and drugs.

6. Stay in Connection with Others

Human beings are social animals. So, it is essential to maintain social relationships with others. No one can live alone in this world. We all are interconnected. So, never ignore others and have good relations with all.

7. Listen to Music

Music has always been the best cure for mental problems. Listening to music or singing elevates stress and makes you feel higher. Music can transcend our souls. So, if you feel stressed, listen to music.

Never think yourself a failure. Always think positive. We all have the right to keep ourselves healthy a live a peaceful life.
