Inspired by the real-life story of ‘The Flying Sikh, the movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is an absolute booster for all individuals involved in sports. As Much as many consider sports for ranking up their grades at school, some genuinely love and work hard to win the titles they deserve.

Directed by Rakesh Omprakash, starring Farhan Akhtar as Milkha Singh shares such a story. A journey of struggle, hard work, failure, finding oneself, happiness, and success. The movie starts showing Milkha Singh lose a race. It takes us back to his childhood. Affected and separated by the 1947 partition. Milkha made his way to India and lived with his sister in Delhi. He feels in love but was asked to by the girl to first live an honest life. It is where the journey of hard work began. Singh got himself into the army training. As part of the exercise and training routine, anyone who won first place would get a glass of milk and two eggs.

It tempted Milkha Singh, and he began training to win those eggs and milk. His dedication was noticed by the sergeant. Singh was soon recruited into the service commission. There he was beaten up by his seniors. Despite all the injuries, he managed to win a race and got selected for the India Olympic team. At this point, he was stepping closer to his goals, but happiness is accompanied by sadness. Milkha’s love was married. It is saddening for him as all this while he was passionate to accomplish his goals because of her.

Milkha didn’t give up. He decided to continue with his goals and went for the 1956 Olympics. He made some bad choices resulting in his defeat for the race the next day. He experienced his first failure. Often people get demotivated at this point and tend to give up. What we don’t realize is life gives us multiple opportunities. All we need to do is recognize and work on them. Milkha didn’t get demotivated. It was a time for him to push himself. He trained even harder than before. The movie shows his entire training through the song “Bhaag Milkha”.The lyrics of the song are supposed to motivate not only the character in the movie but any individual who wishes to seek motivation out of it.

Milkha set a new goal this time; to beat the world record for the 400m race. In the process, he meets another rival, Abdul Khaliq, who is from Pakistan. Abdul was defeated in another race. His ego was shattered. There was no verbal conversation, only pure actions. He ran for the commonwealth games, where he wins a gold medal and the title “The King of England”. It wasn’t the end. He had yet to beat the world record. And then he received his final opportunity. He was allowed to lead the Indian team for games in Pakistan. It is when he was supposed to have a friendly race with Abdul.

Milkha not only defeated Abdul but beat the world record that day. He received the title of “the flying Sikh” that day. It marked the end of the Biography Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. He didn’t run behind success but excellence. His goal was not fame and, he proved it through his actions. Just like Milkha Singh, one must make sure to have a goal and work towards it. Time may occur when you can’t keep up with it. Remember, this could be your chance to push yourself and get the best version of yourself.
