We all know that in today’s world, confidence is the key to achieving success. Confidence is an essential skill that most of us do not have. Whether it is public speaking, viva, job or admission interviews, or a small classroom debate among your own friends, confidence is the skill that gets you there or wins you. People face the issue of stage fright, anxiety, etc while they have to perform or speak in front of people, and that’s where the problem is. So, I have come up with some great tips and tricks that can help you a lot to sound confident, if followed:

Practice

If you have a fear of speaking in front of people, the best way you can improve it is by practicing as much as possible. Practice speaking in front of a mirror and reading books; both will help you gain confidence in speaking while also improving your speaking skills. By practicing, you can know your shortcomings and can improve them or avoid them.

Prepare for the speech

When you know you have to speak somewhere and you have time to prepare, it is better to prepare your speech in advance. Preparing the speech in advance will make you confident as you will know what to speak about next and will not have to think much on the spot. This practice will also help you if you tend to fumble a lot.

1

Smile

Smile while you speak. It makes you look friendly and confident, and people take an interest in what you say. If you speak with a straight or serious face, people get bored and do not take interest in what you speak. Smiling does not only make you look attractive, but also confident with your words of wisdom.

Make eye contact

Make eye contact with people; this will make you appear more confident. While speaking, find the audience who nods or smiles listening to you, and try to make eye contact with those people.

Avoid the use of Umms..

Avoid using umm. in your speech because it gives the impression that you are unsure about what you want to say and thus makes you sound confident. Go with the flow and be clear about what you want to speak about.

2

Talk in a Friendly Voice and Volume

Don’t speak too loud or too low in volume. Your voice should be audible enough to all the audience, even the person in the corner of the room. Your voice and tone should sound friendly, not authoritative or aggressive.

"There's Always A Scope Of Improvement"

Moving further I would like to say that confidence is not about getting a good result, but about handling whatever result you get. Accept what you get and there is no need to worry about your results. Instead, learn from your mistakes if you do not get a good result and maintain them if you get a good result. Make sure that you keep all your points and clear your opinion or stand on a particular topic. Talk in a friendly tone, take deep breaths, take pauses, and smile with confidence.
