Choosing a university is the toughest task for a student, and the student is just stuck in a dilemma when it comes to choosing between the government, public and private universities. The decision is very crucial to take as how and where are your next 3-4 years will be spending depends on this one decision. This decision can have a huge impact on the rest of your life as somewhere or the other your future depends on this. A lot of background work and analysis is needed before choosing the best government and private university for higher studies.

Both the government as well as the private universities have their pros and cons, it is you who need to analyze and decide what suits you the best. Not only students but parents as well are very much worried about their child’s future and want their child to receive the best. There are some parameters, points, and concerns you should analyze first before taking admission to any university. Here are some tips that would help you to differentiate between government and private university in a better way:

1. Look for a better quality education

You must choose a list of some private and some government universities and google each and every university name and find out which university offers quality education. Public universities have conduct examinations before selecting teachers and private universities also hold the selection process in different stages so it becomes difficult to say which one offers better quality education. It would be better if you can talk to the faculty and pass out students to get a correct idea about the environment there.

2. Make sure you have adequate funds

The government universities acquire funds from the government so the fees there are less as compared to the private universities because they do not get funds from the government and are wholly dependent on the fees from students and other private contributions. Students can also opt for loans if they do not have adequate funds.

3. Infrastructure and size

If you are someone who wants to study on a campus that is spread into acres and acres you can go for a private university. The public universities lag far behind when it comes to infrastructure with ill-equipped labs and lack of modern technology whereas the infrastructure is best in private universities which they boast about in their brochures. Always visit the campus and then decide that you like the infrastructure and size of the university or not.

4. Placement offered

This is the most prominent factor that you must look into before taking admission into any university. The placement of any university mainly depends on the goodwill and the alumni network. Government universities already have better goodwill in India and more and more companies visit government universities whereas private universities have tie-ups with MNCs and other big companies for placements. You should check the past placement records thoroughly and have a conversation with the pass out students before making any decision.

5. Culture

A better environment and culture play a very important role along with quality education. If culture and diversity are important to you there are some small private universities that offer one in their intimate campus whereas the public universities also offer diversity and a better culture. Make sure the university you are choosing has a good culture and environment along with the other factors.

6. Athletics and co-curricular activities

Many universities do not pay much attention to athletics and co-curricular activities. If you are someone who is more into athletics or co-curricular activities, make sure the university has a study athletics department so that if you want you can even claim a scholarship later. You can even take admission into universities through sports quota.

7. Prime fields of study

There are some universities that offer education only in specific fields of study whereas some universities offer a variety of courses to opt from. Some of you might be looking for specific courses like business, medical, etc. depending upon how specific you want your career to be, many universities are focused on the teacher-student ratio. Make sure you do thorough research on this factor before choosing any private or government university. Mostly in private universities, the class size is small as they do not take unnecessary admissions and maintain the teacher-student ratio so that every student can receive personal attention.

8. Admission process

Some say the admission process of private universities is complex while some say that for public universities. Different universities have different exams to clear and different admission procedures. Make sure you are thorough with the admission process of the government university that you are choosing. There is a huge competition out there and so the admission process is quite rigid. Make sure you appear for the entrance exam of the respective university and give your 100%. Apply for 2-3 universities to remain on the safer side.
